Dark Eldar from the 3rd edition box. It was during the hunt for the fallen campaign when everyone played DA, BA, or SW. Later I wanted a Marine army and collected my Sallamanders during the Armmagedon campaign. After them, it was my itch to play an Inquisitor from the 3rd edition BBB, so Sister's of Battle it was. Then Sisters in the chapter approved. Then Codex Witch Hunters...... Then a slow grow started up and I recollected my Dark Eldar. Current project is Crimson Fists which was inspired by the Rynn's World book.

I had just finished playing through Fallout 2 for the third time and my buddy dragged me to the local hobby store and decided that we would be buying ourselves 40k armies. Having just enjoyed my third blissful power armour clad odyssey though Northern California I decided that those little guys with the power armour would be neat. 15 minutes later I leave bag with a BBB, a command squad, and a paint starter set inside.

And in that bag they would remain for several years untouched

I can't even remember I'm pretty certain it was tyranids though. I remember doing a brownish desert paint scheme on them.

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Ummm...somewhere...

Necrons, the first white dwarf I ever bought was the 4th edition codex necron release, and the models were amazing, but after reading the rules I quickly jumped into sisters of battle, who now live under my desk until (hopefully) a new codex comes...

Necrons from playing Dawn of War really got me into the game. At first I didn't even know that there was a tabletop version of the game until two friends of mine chipped in for AOBR.

Then I started to look at the other armies and I saw the Nid's and instantly fell in love with the army. I bought the really large battleforce (OOP now) and that's how I started out.

My reaction was to take said die, and hurl it out the window of the 3rd floor of our student union. I then placed a Commissar model next to the rest of my dice pile. They immediately began performing much better.

Blood Angels, my store had a starting box army and a friend had the Angels of Death codex (the Blood Angels and Dark Angels had to share a codex then)
I have that friend to blame for four huge armies now.

Space Marines. Specifically, Ultra Marines. The box art for them was AWSOME!

However, my first exposure to warhammer was in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. Was at a party, and got to play on the host's oldest son's computer. Guard vs Orks. Imperial Guard basilisks were the first tank I saw. They hold a special place in my heart.

I can't wait to buy one of these, open the box, peek at the sprues, and then put it back in the box and store it unpainted for years.

The Inquisition. I loved the fluff of the Inquisition and the Ecclesiarchy, but I also loved the depth of customisation that was available for Inquisitor characters in TT.

Also; the Grey Knights in dawn of war: Dark Crusade. So amazing the voice work.
