Tyranids were what drew me in. I was a big starship troopers/aliens fan and the idea of a true, undecipherable, unknowable alien got me hooked. I've been drawn to eldar since, and dabbled with chaos, but its always been the foreign-ness of the xenos races that inspire me.

Don;t get me wrong, IG and SM have their own attraction, but it's never gripped me the way they have. I think I'd have been a little more enthusiastic in my earlier days had my whole case of Nids not been stolen from McDonalds when I was about 12. Took a long time to come back from that.

I started with a friend's Tau, but he sold them so I went to AoBR. A played a bit w/o a codex, then traded the ork half for some Tau again. Then, I got some more AoBR Terminators and a Dark Angels codex, but got bored of them really fast. So, I built up my Tau to about 2000 Points. Now I'm building up my Dark Angels again; I'm at about 2250 Points. So which army got me into 40k? I'm really not sure...

Black Widow Assault Cadre 2000 Points (Under Renovation- Playable) Win-4 Lose-5 Draw-1
Storm Angels 1st Company 2500 Points (DA Codex) (Under Renovation - Playable) Win-3 Lose-4 Draw-3
Corsairs of Fate 1750 Points (Under Construction - Playable) Win-2 Lose-3 Draw-1
Protectorate of Menoth 11 Points (Project Delayed Indefinitely) Win-1 Lose-3 Draw-0
Imperial Guard Regiment (Unnamed) 1000 Points (Project Delayed Indefinitely)
Cygnar 25 Points (Planned) Win-0 Lose-0 Draw-0

Last Game(s): The Spearhead Annihilation Battle between my Storm Angels First Company (Dark Angels) and Skystompa's Waagghh! (Blood Angels) resulted in a MAJOR VICTORY!

Black Templar, mostly because It seemed to be a lesser represented chapter (according to the website) but it still had its own chapter upgrade kit.

Daemons are relatively recent though, is why. At least daemons as their own army, they were always part of CSMs, but CSMs are boring to many players, so eh.

If by recent you mean the 2nd ed Daemon World list, yeah.

For me, Eldar got me into 40K.

IE, for all of third and most of fourth edition, there was no pure daemons list?

Sorry, forgot my [humor][/humor] tags. I just found it funny you said recent, because 40K has had pure daemon lists in the past. I remember early 3rd ed days on Dakka bemoaning their loss.

I'll be honest, I did mean tail end of 4th edition Daemons that were designed for 5th edition: I've only been playing 40K for 2 years now. Fantasy...almost ten. I have no idea what existed back in 2nd edition other than what my oooooooooooold rogue trader magazines, that were given away as freebies, told me.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

For me it was Dark Eldar, back before the new codex. It was a fun army to play cause it was challenging and really taught me alot about tactics and the game. I sold them to a friend a couple years back and I've really gotten some inspiration to pick them back up again cause I've heard the new codex is great and the models look amazing.

When I was a young lad, no more than eight, I walked into a GW on a street in Cheltnham. And I thought it was one of the best places in the world.
My mother said O could start 40K when I turned twelve. I was buzzing with excitement, and I was hoping to start up a Tau army.
Then, my aunt sent me a Chaos Terminator Lord for my birthday.
Three years and far too much money later, I've got Orks, IG, Space Marines, and of course, Chaos.

Necrons here. My first ever game played was with some borrowed Necron Warriors. Ironically, of the two armies I do not have, Necrons is one of them (the other being Dark Eldar).

The Dark Eldar. I've always been a fan of fast and hard hitting tactics while enjoying the risk of the glass hammer. Plus they were so enjoyable to play with the first game I had.

Eldar, about 11 years ago I was at a friends house and saw an open White Dwarf. The page it was on was a battle report with some of the old Eldar models (before they got their update) and I asked him what they where. He explained the game, I went with him to the local gaming store and was going to get Eldar but then I found Space Wolves I didn't do an Eldar army untill much later but but in the end it was the Eldar that got me into the game.

My dad got me the Battle for Macragge set when I was between 5th and 6th grade. I instantly got hooked on tyranids, though they are definitely not my favorite army today I still have a soft spot for them. I always loved the look of genestealers, especially with 60+ on the battlefield.

Tyranids, I only knew of about two other teams at the time. My neighbour owned some and they were aliens and looked weird, which was very appealing to my ~10 year old mind. 10 years later... yeah, they still look weird and cool.

The local GW also had a large Genestealer hanging out of one of the ceiling tiles, that sealed the deal.

Back during the Armageddon campaign, I got into 40k because of the Steel Legion. Now if only they made them in plastic...

The second time was almost four years ago and I went with Space Wolves, it was because I had a friend who played BA, one who play DA and one who played BT.

Space Marines. Is there any other? ^^ (I feel dirty) Yeah, but I matured a little, got rid of the gaudily painted "Golden Phoenixes" (¬¬) and bought a proper guard army instead-though that army didn't come to much at the time, but I am now recycling those models for my current guard army-don't have the heart to throw out things that other people bought for me.
