Mutilatin' Mad Dok

I used to frequent a canadian store known as "the sober dwarf"
And i would buy as many miniatures as i could. i wouldn't even buy food. I was homeless! I lived in a shelter that fed us fairly well.
I just remember the lovely store owner who made every visit feel like I came to game with a close friend! I loved painting with her! We would yammer on for hours, and if the store was super dead, me and her would go grab some coffee!
I spent as much money there as i could muster from my tripe pizza job, and i hated being there because it was a zoo full of teenage skanks & macho prick dudes. I loved going to that store. I even managed to go from the pizza place, buy some grots, run and get energy drinks, and back in the pizza place in 6 minutes. Good times.
This was what, two years or more ago? still. funnest times i ever had with warhammer. After i left town (i couldn't stay homeless forever!) i heard the sober dwarf shut down. I cried that day. Still miss that girl, and i write to her frequently!

S'all fun and games until some no life troll master debates all over your space manz & ruins it for you

I walk past my old FLGS most days and everytime i get a prang of memories .

.the smell of paints in the air {it was in a basement so no windows}
. you could tell who was working by the type of music playing {ether ace of base or cypres hill lol}
. the fact they used to sell painted secondhand figs and armies aswell {picked up 60 hevymetel quality painted plastic imp guard for £15}
.the fact you had to go in everyday cos the stock was always changeing
.the shelves of rollplay books with there crazey 80s cover art
and the excitement you would feel each mouth to see whats in this issue of WD

Everytime I get *too* sentimental about the prices of the old miniatures I take a step back and actually LOOK at the old models vs. the new ones.

I dunno, something like:

Compared to:

And then I think: 'yeah, that's probably worth 5 times the price of the first one (or whatever it was back then...its been so long).'

Oi, that's me Dread.

But yea, when you consider the quality of the new models and the amount of detail, they really are worth every penny.
