Has no one else seen the Angry Marines codex?
It's a downloadable PDF, just google it.
It's pretty goddamned awesome.
And I'd say that yes, the Blood Ravens are official, since the Black Library has published four (or five?) books about them, which are cool and stupid. And have blood color changing.
BL would have had to ask for permission from GW to write them, was my point.

Anyway, back on topic.
I would say that the "Create Your Own" codex idea would be the best, but there would have to be a lot more restrictions to make sure you don't have an army that is a completely fluff-slowed god-rapist.
That would be my choice, and I certainly hope that GW takes the ideas for condensed codexes for CSM/Traitors and them SM. Though I think renegade Guard and non-SM traitors would need to be in a different book by themselves, but I digress.

What were we talking about again?

Hi there, I'm an hole! =D

"Links disintegrate--
Bolt clanks back and forth behind the thudding roar--
Brass rains on the sidewalk--
The 'sixty rattles out its song.
A song I first heard years ago--
Of fireteams dug in on the breaks between the paddyfields, of tracer lasering the jungle night, of Hueys screaming through the void--
Of Lieutenant Castle getting short and hating it, wanting 'Nam to last forever--
A lullaby come all the way to New York City--
Come to sing you to sleep."
-The Punisher

Yay for Mech IG with Daemonhunter and kroot allies! Planning on 5000+ pts very soon!

I'd have to go with Deathwatch (with part of it as Ordo Xenos.)

Very interesting chapter.

I mean I've seen people make their armies into SMs (one guy did a Apocalypse force with 1 Librarian for every squad in his army) but I don't think GW is going to take something someone else made and put it into their own scheme ya know? They kind of stick to the idea that if they didn't make it it dosen't go in.....by god they're nerds with power

sorry I ment make their SM armies in BR
The blood ravens very much are an official chapter, they were portrayed in 4E C:SM. That said, they are for the most part rather Codex, they were created so that DoW could have a relatively standard Marine chapter that wasn't treading on something already existing, so making a book just for them would sort of defeat the purpose.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

i'll go with this. Custom building chapters. Sorry but the ultramarines codex fails for making your own chapters its too limiting as you need to get characters in order to use traits.

I would slap them and make them make a space skaven, not because i own skaven (i only have a 500 point space ork army) but because i think they are cool.

But i would vote for a build your own chapter codex.

I completely agree. The old doctrines/trait systems were a great idea, just poorly realized. They could really go far trying to improve that concept. The current system of special characters and ICs unlocking abilities is inherently imbalanced.

Really what I'd like to see is GW move away from books entirely, and go to free PDFs. They don't make a significant portion of their income of 'dexes, and it would allow easier and more frequent updates (doing away with FAQs altogether!).

I'm not so sure about that.

It really doesn't cost much to typeset and print a 64pp or 96pp perfect bound magazine, which is what a codex is, basically. It's even cheaper when you do it in Dubai or China because you don't have a tight schedule like a regular magazine.

The expensive bit is creating the contents. A lot of that is recycled, actually, especially the fluff and hobby pages.

Translation is moderately expensive, but that isn't factored into the cost of the English codex.

Then you have to worry about print runs and overstock. GW, though, must have a pretty good idea how many SM codexes they will sell over a year, and can place sensible orders.

If you go digital lose the print and inventory costs, but you gain a new bunch of costs in hosting, bandwidth and DRM if you want to stop things being copied.

The long and short of it is that GW make a damn good margin on codex books, and they have no incentive to go digital with them.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Blood Ravens were given traits in the 4e codex. That's pretty official to me.

If they come out with another marine codex (especially if its as ridiculous as some of the aspects in the SW and BA codex's) it will make me sick. The Marines have plenty to work with right now and do not need another specialist chapter. If anything they need to add another Xenos race or even Chaos Guard to dilute the Marine Hammer 40k universe.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

Just a reminder, the topic is acting under the premise that GW already has made the new army. The question is would the new army be an existing chapter or an entirely new chapter created by GW and a few people have answered this with existing chapters. However the topic is not how they would/should format the codex, if there should be a new SM army or not or if there are too many SM armies already and another shoulden't be added. So I'm asking politely, please stay on the topic.

I think GW needs to recognize the validity of internet memes and make Angry Marines into a full codex.

Kabal of the Void Dominator - now with more purple!

Dont need a lecture mate just misunderstood the question. If that is the case then it may very well possibly be the Blood Ravens, they have gone a long way into developing their story in the Dawn of War games and may create them as a way of getting people who play Dawn of War into playing the tabletop game.
