A wargamer only dies once all his figures are painted.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I have those old Kommandos, they are awesome. They are the best of the old Ork range, I think. I also love the Kustom Kombi Weapon Deathskull boyz, who were the inspiration for the modern lootas. I still use 4 of them in my army. (When I play 40k). I also have a Deathskull warboss in a shootaboy mob, as well as a random Deffskull boy. And some old grots too. The newer orks are much more menacing and fun to paint though, and I definitely prefer them. It was incredible when the plastic boyz first came out, I was blown away by the models and the overall look. Kept me playing Orks for over a decade.

Then I suppose I will live forever.

Some of the older models are awesome, and some not so much, I don't like or dislike them on principle. That said, some are really terrible

For me the RT models are a real hit/miss situation. Some have great charm and others are absolutely dire.

I find that modern miniatures usually are easier to build/convert/paint though...

Yep, those old RT models have a little place in my heart too.

I can almost field an entire marine army in RT marines, would like a few more, but deffinately need OOP predators(with the ball turret) and LR's (only have 1).

+1 to everything that chromedog has said in this thread...

I am old enough to have been around when 2nd edition was released... and I have almost the entire collection of Chaos Warriors, Marauders/Thugs, Champs and Sorcerors from the '80s...

*I would be willing to trade them for 40k orks from the same era. All mine are bare metal or decently painted.

I do think chaos might have suffered more than others. Those old models were varied and interesting, whilst the current ones are a bit samey. Given the nature of chaos, they've probably lost out by the switch to plastics.

Compare with SWs. With the older, metal models, you needed the metal box set for that unit type, and then (IIRC) used the plastic arms and weapons to equip them. The current box set allows you to make loads of different units, each with their own character, and keep the bits for conversions. You can even set your own "rules" for how the army functions (wolf-heads for lone wolves, younger bare heads for blood claws etc.)

I always struggled with the old orks. Some of the models didn't really fit with those arms sprues, and they ended up looking like they were doing bent-elbows cockney dancing.

It was only the gorkamorka boxes that got me to stick with orks - you could kitbash half the units in the army book with those sets.

So, maybe it's an army specific thing.
