Maybe I'm doing something wrong because I felt like there was little button-mashing, just an auto-attack. For me the biggest problem with the combat was the ridiculous OTT animations. They really went overboard especially considering how bland the first DA (by design maybe?) was.

"Voice acting for femHawke is terrible, that alone might keep me from ever getting the game. "

This is the truest statment in this entire thread.

I didn't mind the girl voice that much, but it's clear they want you to play the boy instead.. he's in all the trailers and pictures and everything.

Shouldn't Femsheps voice actor be terrible, then too?

She wasn't that spectacular. For some reason gamers have this bizzare obsession with Jennifer Hale and an unfounded hatred of Mark Meer.

As a side note did Jennifer Hale voice lady Hawke? They sound very different.

Wait, mash the attack butotn? I only had to it R once, it attacks the nearest enemy, then I use the special attacks when they come up or when the situation calls for them.

She's trying too hard to be the poncy British hero, and she sounds like she's 15. Or maybe there is some other horrible indeterminate aspect to her voice that makes me rage, and I simply can't explain why. There's just something about it that seems really...off.

Vague post is vague : P

TBH I don't know how to explain it well, there's just something wrong with it. I guess you'll just have to indulge this one idiosyncrscy of mine

I don't understand how the female version of Hawke's voice acting is bad.

It sounded fine to me, actually like a past ex of mine, to be honest.

I find that some of you just have too high standards. Combat was improved in every way, just press R (or a key you bound) to attack the nearest enemy. Everything is much more engaging, and the graphics were a overall improvement.

I think I'll have to boot up the demo again to better articulate why I hate lady Hawke. But honestly I CBF right now, plus all them crashes....

As for having too high standards, considering the first DA wasn't all that impressive and I still enjoyed it to a degree would suggest otherwise.

DA2 seems to take a step sideways rather than forward or backward. Combat is fun, but the animations are OTT. Maybe I'm just saying that because coming from the quite bland DA:O, these animations seem crazy.

Graphics are kinda just a style change but there seems to be a lack of detail, then again the first game had that problem as well. Character models still look great though. Of course it's a demo and some graphical options may be locked.

I can sort of agree on the animations being OTT (like the mage doing a 360 before their flaming line thing) but its not that big of a deal.

I absolutely hated playing anything but an Arcane Warrior/Battlemage in Origins/Awakening. The mage auto attack was just ugly with the staff.

The "high standards" thing was really meant for the voice thing. Her voice really sounds fine, what do you want it to sound like? The voice actor first has to agree, and if its a well known and respected person, the $$$ is going to be big.

I don't know why people think Jennifer Hale does FemHawke, it's some voice actress named Jo Wyatt.

Voice acting in the DA2 demo is nowhere near the quality of ME2.

I disagree. I like the VA in DA2. Especially that Dwarf fellow.

"I don't like this? That ranks up there with 'what could possibly go wrong?'"

I mean besides the silly "everyone is British in fantasy" the voice acting is fine. That Chantry Seeker's accent is a bit weird though. Lady Hawke is plain bad, but overall the VA is aight. Also maybe there's a bit of purple prose, but that might be by design, and unlike the snobby writing community I don't really have a problem with some purpleness (unless you're Final Fantasy tactics)

I only play DA on the PC, as I do not own a console. To that end, the graphics are substantially worse for the PC version. The effects are lower quality, the character models are lower quality and there is an obvious loss of detail in all things. I do not mean to bash consoles, but DA2 looks like a console game...on my pc... This is with all settings maxed even, I even forced higher AA with CCC. Perhaps graphics are restricted in the demo and the full game will be better? The only graphic improvement is in the animations. They are extremely fast and flashy, which I suppose makes it more exciting, but also much less realistic = /

IMHO, they went overboard with the animations. They needed more action than what was in the first game, but not nearly this much, alot of stuff is just silly. Take the rogue backstab for example. Why does the rogue teleport? I think it would have been more interesting to have the rogue leap over...maybe even do a flip over the enemy and land behind it. They could even do that slow-motion thing that bioware seems to be so fond of to make it look really interesting.

The demo had a lot of restrictions. I wouldn't be surprised that there were some graphics ones.

Decided to give the Steam demo a try, seeing as the xbox demo is locked for non-Gold members. The witches. Anyway, it was okay, had a spot of bother with no voices, but a quick change in the audio settings fixed that. The combat looks good, but too much of the demo has been locked away, which is a shame.
