Regardless of how the loss of MEQs would affect the metagame, I've just got to say that I love Kilkrazy's work on this thread.

Even if Marines are gone, something will take the place of them as the powergamer's delight.

That is kinda the point of the hypothetical 'what if' of the original question. I'm thinking that with MEQ no longer in such abundance that it facilitates single choices and with various armies of more extreme play styles therefore in proliferation, it opens up the notion of 'all rounder' lists again.

Maybe, but with the proliferation of the Internet we see more 'copycatter' lists from the folks who'd rather just copy/paste an army list that someone else uses rather than make up their own balanced list.

My delusions tell me that there was a day when they made up craft worlds, Ork clans, and famous Imperial Guard regiments at the same speed and with the same amount of flavor rules that they made up Space Marine chapters.

My delusions tell me that fewer marine books would mean that I'd be more likely to be surprised by which army my opponent decided to bring, even if did end up being Super Eldar, Blood Eldar, Dark Eldar, Wolf Guard, Bad Moon Orks, Yellow Moon Orks, and Spooky Grey Guard.

I think the main difference would be that Troops would become useful. The trouble with Troops now is that their capability to hurt SMs (T4, Sv3+, Ld9) is limited to the number of anti-tank weapons they can carry.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
