Just because it has the name doesnt mean its made to coinside with the game, even if it is the fans of the game will attempt to purge the film out of existence. and tbf that film looks as if it just using the super mario bros title to promote it even though its gak.
Most films would be gd if they stuck to their game story.

I think the best Game to Film adaptation so far has been Prince of Persia; familiar character, familiar setting, completely different storyline.
