The tradition is widely followed by most Christian denominations including Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Presbyterians, and Lutherans. Some of the Protestant sects do not follow it. It isn't based on nationality.

I know. But theres only one guy i know who does it and he's a religious nutjob. There's a gay girl in class, and one they he exploded and said they were going to hell. Man, i laughed so hard. But do people still actually do it over the Kanal/pond?

It is still something that quite a lot of non-religious people do, taking the opportunity of a defined period of time to make some small commitment to a heathier lifestyle.

I have decided to give up drink, for example. Six weeks on the wagon will be good for my liver and my waistline.

You know you're just going to switch to K2/Spice because it doesn't show up in tests and gives the same feeling(and the components are legal for now).

It's still up when I follow the link... It's probably Youtube throwing a tantrum about you being in the USA and the video being in the UK or something.

Mine is hobby related: Giving Up unpainted Models. I dont currently see a point in giving up smoking, so i will inevitably fail if i try. Might give up chocolate.

So what are you giving up for lent? Assuming you are open minded enough just to enjoy the challenge of abstaning from something.

I try to do a bunch of stuff. This year I'm planning refrain from going to McDonalds or eating out in general. I eat out EVERYDAY. In fact today I'm going to the grocery store to stock up on foods.

I might also give up playing games and model work on my miniatures... i'm not entirely sure yet... hopefully I'll figure it out by the time I get off work.

Actually I was contemplating switching to Sudafed after the story Mannahin linked the other day Sudafed 24 hour has a nice dosage of Pseudoephedrine... only 10 pills per box though. Make myself go on runs or something that's healthy (or at least good for my figure) instead of making myself over eat and make stupid posts online. Plus the whole completely legal thing, as long as I don't buy over X number of packages per month.

Yeah, my wife did that last year... without telling me in advance (or, in fact, any time DURING Lent either).

Cannerus, DO NOT take sudafed recreationally. It is HIGHLY addictive, i think i remember something saying it was as addictive as many Hardline Drugs... Next you'll say you were recommended snorting glue..

What about sudafed for actual allergy relief? I gotta tell you, I'm also addicted to breathing.

I currently work crappy retail. I was doing flea markets and ebay sales for about 2 1/2 years, which I miss in many regards, but was difficult to sustain.

As for addiction, having done actual hard drugs and not having any problems that a few days of forced sobriety didn't fix, I'm not worried. I'm going to give it a trial run regardless because I'm into experimentation. I've done my research.

Edit: As far as snorting glue, the damage vs. high ratio was such that it never interested me. Robo-tripping is the lowest I've ever sunk, and that was a one-time deal because it sucked.

I wrote that i dont see the point at the moment. Not that i dont see a benefit. I would of course give up for health reasons, because a new lady friend objected or i found my funds seriously stretched.

I still vow that the moment i start coughing up about a kilo of Kime on a daily basis i'm quitting. Till then...

No point quitting after the damage is already done, really.
