The tradition is widely followed by most Christian denominations including Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Presbyterians, and Lutherans. Some of the Protestant sects do not follow it. It isn't based on nationality.

I know. But theres only one guy i know who does it and he's a religious nutjob. There's a gay girl in class, and one they he exploded and said they were going to hell. Man, i laughed so hard. But do people still actually do it over the Kanal/pond?

I don't usually bother with Lent personally. I don't see how giving up my favorite food for a few weeks would mean anything. It's not like I'm living in the desert for 40 days like Jesus. So I just accept that I'm not Jesus and never will be.

Its funny.... my roomate works in a seafood restaurant and has been told no extra time off/vacation during Lent....
For those that do not understand... one aspect of Lent is no meat on Friday.... only fish is allowed.

I'm going back onto a diet. I did a hard core super low carb diet last year and lost 160lbs, and quickly gained 40 of it back when I started my new job. (yeah, I'm a fatass).

So I'm trying a new approach, behavior modification, food journalling, the whole bit. It's day two and I feel like lighting myself on fire, so I figure it's working.

I've been on a severely restrictive diet for two years now, and it gets much easier.

Well, it's not like the weight gain was a surprise. I went from eating ~1000 calories a day and working out, to eating whatever i wanted and sitting at a computer all day. It's been a brutally cold winter in Cleveland, so I'm excited to get out and walk more. Cigar + iPod + metroparks full of jogging ladies = a pleasant stroll.

It's been a cold winter here in Massachusetts as well. I haven't been able to work out, so I do have a slight pudge.

But I do have to hold racing boats down by leaning, so the extra 5 pounds works out to be a good thing.

If I practiced Lent, a reasonable test would be to logoff Dakka.

Glad I don't.

I am giving up Catholicism for lent.

I'm giving up the internet.

Was going to give up smoking, but already done that, so its ice cream and cheesey chips for me. The diet will also be coming in to play.
