Hey the Unforgiven,

No matter your skill level, EVERYONE needs to be commended for painting their minis! You asked for a few suggestions, so may I... It looks as though your paint might be a bit thick, try adding a little bit of water to it to thin it down. It may mean that you have to do a couple coats to get the colour you want but you won't lose the definition in the model. Regarding the sword, other than the white, there isn't much contrast between the colour. I would suggest using a darker first coat, and then the first highlight be a fair bit brighter....

cheers guys, thanks for the comments,

Cat/

Lost in the warp. Halp!

I've used this for a couple of thunder hammers now, and ... yeah, it looks ten times better than what I was doing before. I will have to find a working digital camera (looks like mine got dropped one too many times finally) and take a few pictures, because my Deathwing weapons are going to look AMAZING. I ended up going with green, because well ... Dark Angels. Had to do it.

As a sidenote, I also started using the lightning idea on the storm shields -before- I looked at your general Lightning tutorial. Now I'm all worried that the REST of the models won't look as nice!

That is awesome Candroth! I can't wait to see your results. And why be worried the rest of the models won't look as good, you can always repaint them! LOLS

Cheers and thanks for the info!

Say you were to make the TH red like Lolcanoe, what colors would you recommend?

Hey Gretar,

Look at the first page of this forum topic and you will see someone else that did a red TH! I think the colours are included, if not, either ask him or I can try and figure it out. Good lucK!

Do purple! You don't see that too often.

I'm doing green on mine, though I'm debating switching it up (with purple and red/orange, oddly) just so I have some variety.

And, because I found a working camera, here Cat -- have a couple pictures of what I've done with my Thunder Hammers!

Candroth!!!! That is F'n sweet!!! I really like how the figs are painted, but the T-hammer really turns the weapon alive! Excellent execution and thanks so much for taking the time to show me your results!

Just finished using this on a Power Sword, apologies for the quality of the 2nd photo.

Problem I found is that the paint wouldn't come off of my brush at all if there wasn't enough paint on it, so I'd put more on, and get the splodgy thing you see going on.
Word from the wise, thin your paints... gotta learn to heed my own advice sometimes
Though it does look quite good from a distance...

Would could I use in place of Necron Abyss? My FLGS doesn't carry a Vallejo equivalent. Would Regal Blue work?

Here's another result:

The lightning is a bit thick, but I'm not very patient so it is what it is. I also used your storm shield technique, but wanted to be more visible on the tabletop so decided to do the whole shield. These guys get a bunch of comments when I take them out... now only five more to go!

I tried this on a power sword for my 2nd Vanguard in this blog http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/340897.page

This is my first attempt at lightening effect, let me know what you think.

Does it work on a sword as well as a hammer?

just did up 5 TH with this method and I love them!... they look fantastic and are the perfect style to complement my termies

EDIT****

Not quite as good as yours, but since I have only been painting for a month or so I am VERY pleased with them and the technique is simple and efficient! (although I brewed up my own blue rather than using GW's)

Conduct While Gaming
While rolling a die, do not say, “Anything but a 1!” unless you wish the die to come up as 1. Any other such attempts to anger the “Dice Gods” will result in the existential equivalent of continuously flipping a coin and having it come up heads every time (for reference, see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead). Your dice will be cursed to roll ones for everything other than morale checks, which will come up sixes.

ORK PLAYERS HAVE A LIMIT OF 1 SCREAMS OF WAAAAAAGH PER HOUR. violators will be forced to play tau.

Players with chimeras and las weapons shall pronounce chimera ki-mere-uh, not chim-ere-uh. Violators will be forced to play nothing but world eaters. Non-40k personnel must purchase and build a chimera.
