Aha, so now it's May, not December? I really must update my apocalypse planning. On a serious note though, what a lot of people have already written here: "No one knows the day or hour"... and most people who claim to have their own agendas.

Et In Arcadia Ego

The latest issue of the Fortean Times has a little article about this, mainly remarking how odd it is that this particular definitive statement of THE END TIMES has received such widespread mainstream media coverage.
Given the genteleman's previous utterances to do with the world ending in 1994 ( a miscalcualtion apparently. Still, an easy mistake to make I guess.) not really looking all that solid... ( aforementioned Transformers 3 point aside of course), I am somewhat bemused.
It doesn't seem as if he is hoping or trying to make $s out of this ( AFAIK anyway), and some other people have really taken this to heart. US veteran Marie Exley, has spent large sums of money hiring billboards and the like and is/was travelling the world to spread the message. In Feb. she was, apparently, in Turkey and planning to travel to Iraq ( where she'd served) to spread the message. She has no plans to come home.
Apparently a recent caller to Mr. Camping's radio show asked if come May 22nd nothing happened, would he refund money to listeners who had cashed in their savings/similar to help the station spread the message. To which he replied that the caller was talking nonsense and went onto say " The 22nd of May will be day two Judgement Day. I don't know if there will stil be a radio station. It will be a day of horror and millions will die."
Typically this is going to happen on a Sunday. What bastard luck that is eh ?
There are quite a few websites and people who, quietly, are busy shooting down Mr. Camping's "work", such as http://refutecamping.com/ which does a fine job of using the same materials he does and showing the flaws in his work/readings.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Well if one guys says so, then it's gotta be true.
Seriously. I'm Catholic but it doesn't necessitate that I stand out on my front lawn arms stretched towards the heavens everytime someone proclaims Judgement Day. His "followers" should think the same.

Nice of them to let us know, huh? Wouldn't want Judgment Day to creep up on me and not have a present for the wife. I still haven't lived it down from last year.
I love these. I happen to be a Christian, and this kinda thing annoys the (curse word of choice) out of me.
I remember something exactly like this about 2 years ago. And, now that I think about it, if the "experts" in my religion are correct, the world should have ended about 15 times since I was born back in the early 90's.
There are about 200 dates like May 21st that have come and gone in the past 250 years. This is just another marketing racket.

So true, Cybronx. If these people where genuine about this "date", they would not advertise. They would just live life as all Christians are called to, I.E. as if every day is your last on earth.

As an atheist, I find the source material used to "calculate" such things to be less than concrete. Indeed, the entire premise is, from my point of view, flawed.

Funnily enough we got the point that you didnt beleive in the source material when you opened with 'as an atheist'.
