That's my plan. It's unlikely that I'll be able to get my club to buy into Warpath, but I'm defintiely going to get me some Forgefathers for use with WarEngine or 5150. Both these systems have unit building mechanics so my Mantic Forgefathers can fight against my Denizen Ventaurans, Void/UrbanWar Junkers, GW IG, Metal Magic Spacelords, EM4 and Shockforce Troopers and others.
At some point, maybe I'll give the Warpath rules a shot if they come out with an army list that covers my Marines or IG or if they release another faction that really, really catches my interest, but my interest in the figures is not at all dependent on the Warpath rules.

I have another old rules-set, got it when I lived in Atlanta, Lazer-Grenadiers. More skirmnishy than 40k, and a lot of complex shooting rules, but otherwise very simplistic.

Hi folks.
My point is there are loads of great skirmish rule sets for modern wargames.(No limits, Infinity, StargruntII, ChainreactionIII, Fast and Dirty etc.)
Mantic are all about 'big armies big battles'.
Yet the 'napoleonic' rules used in WHFB and KoW, realy only suit skirmish games ...(WHFB in space went all pearshaped after 3rd ed went to battle games but kept model centric rules.)
So a modern battle wargame SHOULD be focusing on detailed UNIT interaction.
(The statline should cover ALL the units in game features.)
As there are loads of great batalion level and higher games about.(Net Epic, Dirtside, Epic Armageddon etc.)
Starting with one of these UNIT focused games and ADDING detail would have resulted in a more intuitive modern battle wargame, that KoW in space could ever be.
$64 million question....
If Alessio wrote Warpath before KoW , would he still have used the same game mechanics and resolution methods?
If the answer is NO! Then Warpath is not as good as it should be .
Simple as that.
Warpath is a game that is easy to play. But it not the modern battle game that it deserved to be!(IMO.)

I would have to agree with Lanrak that there seems to be a missed opportunity ruleswise with Warpath.
I understand that Mantic/Alessio are playing safe with not only the initial figure release and the familiar KOW style for Warpath, but a decent set of interactive (rather than IGO/UGO) unit scaled rules would hvae been welcome.
That said if the figures are nice enough they will still be bought and other rulesets are readily available (5150 for me I think)

They Are Epic!
They are only partly in print and are being reissued slowly by EM4. It's an early 90's sci-fi system from the now-defunct german company "Metal Magic" Lots of power armored troopers, alien armored troopers and Beastmen with a bit of a RT vibe.
I've owned and sold a couple hundred of these figs over the years just because I was interested in the line. I've gotten rid of all except for my favorites, the rather-rare Sardaykin that I always wanted and hopefully this year or next they'll get painted.

Definitely. Nostalgia is what drew me back to Spacelords over a decade after they were discontinued. Back in the 90's I found a couple in the bargain bin at a great old gaming/model store called Proseks (now closing/closed). I converted them to be my chaplain and Standard bearer and they are still a part of my Blood Angel Army. When EM4 started re-releasing them in the 00's. I started hunting for the non-re-released figs.
By the way, the new EM4 Reissues are really clean casts of good quality.

I had some, along with other collected minis for my forces, but alas, a crazy person had thrown them all away when I was out at work and did not have a locked door!

Played that mini game day a while back. Galactic Federation (Republic ripoff) invades Rhodesi Primus, which is being held by the Commerce Unions (CIS ripoff). The Galactic Federation are mauled while trying to get the invasion underway, and are beaten off world, but they do put a serious dent in the Commerce Unions armoured forces. That is, until their six APCs roll in from their reserves.
I used home-made army lists that I balanced out. It was brutal, fun and we all enjoyed it. Warpath is definitely a step forward for youth wargaming.
