Not perfect, but good enough. You can expect a commission from me in a few months when my finances stabilize.
Yup straight up shapeways with Rust-oleum primer from Home Depot, some GW paints, and what painting skill I have. (Mostly being able to stay in the lines, mostly)
Look forward from hearing from you though!

I will do a shield and a pad in both badab black and devlen mud. That should work right? I have a number of other washes or could just make my own. . . I will post pics of both the effects from primer and washes.

For some reason I've not had much luck with the washes on the clear plastics, maybe because it doesn't define the shadows well enough.

In those shields, there's a noticeable rough texture indicative of additive-process "3D Printers".

No, no, no. I have no first-hand experience in the matter. I'm simply looking at Lysenis's images.
The raised areas look to have a texture across the length of the shield, and even the recessed areas do to a lesser degree.

There is a line like texture to the shields. I have painted one of these just yet so I will post pictures when I do. As a heads up these are extremely easy to file at least the out side raised areas. . .

So, if I wanted to commission some shoulder pads with an eagle head on them, can you give me a rough idea of cost?
Basically, the whole pad would be a 3-d eagle head with the raised "band" around the edge of the shield.
I'd be ordering 100 or more.
Note... this is not an order. Just an inquiry. I've got 2 or 3 projects to save for before this would be on my radar. I'm just getting an idea of cost so I know if this is something I can fit into that schedule, or if it would need to be something with it's own "slot" at the end of my current schedule.
Thanks.

It's roughly $25 for a commission to create the design, and then whatever shapeways sells them for (which should be the same as other pads really)

For 3-d pads it 45-50$ for the commission. And pads would and can be sold in sets (ask) and it will generally cost roughly 2$ a pad easy.

So, for 100 pads with generally the same level of detail as your jester, around $225 would be expected, then?
Thanks for taking the time to respond to all these queries.

Hey Magicka,
The commission fee for a 3D eagle head would be $50
They are then uploaded to Shapeways where you can purchase them choosing 2 different material types.
The first material type is white detail, and has a level of detail down to .2mm - for 3D shoulder pads these would be $1.75 each.
Example - http://www.shapeways.com/model/297670/28mm_custom_shoulder_pad_3d_jester_skull_spikes.html?gid=sg74430
The second material is the Ultra Fine detail, it has a level of detail down to .1mm - I have to bundle these because they have a startup cost of $5, so I usually bundle them in 20, to round the cost per pad down, which at 20 models is 25 cents a model, bringing us to $40 for 20 pads, or $2 a pad.
Example - http://www.shapeways.com/model/297669/20_28mm_custom_shoulder_pad_3d_jester_skull.html?gid=sg74430
I hope that clears thing up, and sorry I could not respond earlier.
Lysenis wrote:No you get 20 for 30$ so with commission if normal than 175 for 3d its 200$
That's for the 2D relief pads, they're cheaper because they use less material.
