Ehhhhhh I'm gonna make wild assumptions, accusations, and put words in people's mouths - anyone who thinks FF7 [why all the damn roman numerals?] was a bad game has no taste. If you want to criticize it, sure, do so. But the game was absolutely amazing and still is. I've replayed it time and again, as I did with FF6 [3 in the USA].
And the same goes for 6, honestly. The guy that handed it over to his kid brother and watched him just fight and cure - that's pretty much the mantra of any RPG. Do damage to the bad guy, heal damage to your own. Neither game was immensely challenging [FF7 you could actually set up your materia so that you could start the final boss fight, put down the controller, go to the store and come back to watch the end credits] and so neither had the DIFFICULTY triumph feeling you'd get for beating, say, Demon's Souls or Dante's Inferno on crazy hard.
But the characters and events in each game make them epic and classic. I can play FF7 now and I don't care that Cloud's face is a featureless peach with blinking anime eyes. It doesn't NEED to be MORE than that to appreciate the story.
