As I recall it's also commonly speculated that the Deceiver was the "golden-skinned stranger" who led Abaddon to find his daemon sword on Uralan. Shame he couldn't have found him a less daft-looking weapon.

Oh right, I heard about that.
It has been speculated that the Deceiver helped Abaddon to power so that Chaos' armies would be incompetently led.

The Ctan really are awesome I hope they don't get ditched in the next Codex like I heard. I'd rather the return of the Outsider and more rumors of the Dragon. The deciever is awesome tricking th galaxy for lol's and noming souls what a life.

The thing about the Deceiver is it's managed to manipulate and dictate almost every important event since its awakening. The C'tan are genuinely the most interesting race in the 40k universe, in my opinion, and I'd actually be really upset if they remove them or do them a disservice in the next codex.
On topic; how do psychic abilities like the foot of gork work, are they simply a name given to the power or is it a realspace manifestation of the god's strength?

It's very possible that both these things are simultaneously true.

The Nightbringer isn't trapped in the Warp, after being released by the Ultramarines (Epic failure lololol), it fled Pavonis to a distant place in the galaxy to feed on stars, to regain some of its loss strength.
The Bringer of Night was the Nightbringer's flagship during the War in Heaven. It got sucked into the Warp when the Nightbringer was heading for Pavonis to hibernate. It had a significant amount of the Nightbringer's "essence" or somesuch imbued within it, which was why it was so weak as to nearly die out while hibernating.

So this is now a thread about Gork, Mork, and the C'tan? Alright...
Yeah, I'd bet that the 'foot of Gork''s something of a psychic manifestation f the God's will, like a little Avatar in the classic sense, only manifested as destruction and pure violence, without needing a vessel.

That's not really the Nightbringer itself being trapped though.
Just a chunk of its power being transported beyond its reach.

It wasn't the Ultramarines who released the Nightbringer.
