The quality of your paint job is....ify. USE WASHES and highlight and DO NOT varnish everything

I would say washes and give the flesh some highlights, armor too. Water some asurman blue down to fill gaps and such, doesn't need to be a heavy wash, then a thin one of badab black or what ever the new one is. Nuln oil right?

Yarrr...

Yep, I know it's iffy, the models pictured were rush jobs for a game that never happened (I don't play unpainted models). There were a lot of 2am finishes there.

There aren't any washes on the later models as by the time it got to that stage, my eyes hurt to hell So I did the 3 colour minimum with every intention of getting back to them though my motivation's been found lacking since.

I have what I need to get them to where I'm happy, well, almost everything, it's just time I'm lacking.

Oh, ps, there isn't one bit of varnish on these models, not sure where you got that impression from.

they just seem incredibly shiny (which ruins any level of paint job)

Yeah that's probably just a combination of camera flash and dark nights, an all round bad combination for natural looking pictures!

Mate.. loving the DE, as mentioned above a wash/highlight and you are there... As for the varnish thing, when you spray paints i've found that sometimes it can look 'shineyer' than usual. A good matt varnish will see you right on this. Loving the raider.. how did you do that side armour effect? One ikkle thing; i'm (personally) not too sure about the sail... might look better as one colour with maybe some tribal pattern...
Looking forward to see how this plays out though.....

Cheers man it's ages since I've been able to do any painting though I'm hoping to get some time in the new year. Got some warriors to convert to trueborn that I'm looking forward to tucking in to!

The side armour was a pain, I actually did that design for my gcse art exam. There was nothing to it, just straight up burnished gold. Paint some spots and add waves, and that's your lot! The sail was a trial more than anything, I had no idea what to do and that's what came off the brush.

A lot of this stuff is going to get stripped and redone, including the raider.

Thanks for the kind review man, that's ace

Happy Christmas!
