To be honest i just got tired of 47 pages of advertising and no content. Battle reports are filler. There is a serious lack of any kind of good hobby info. The whole thing seems geared to being a giant, youpaidforit sellers tool. Which is exactly what it is. THey used to have scenarios, modelling tips, painting advice, and other helpful advice besides the ... this is our new model line stuff.

Not so much hate as much as WD is essentially irrelevant these days.

Had limited internet access when I was interested in starting the hobby, and the GW website was good, with articles on terrain building.
I bought three copies of WD which I thought might help me get a feel for what it was all about. This was around the time of BfSP I guess.
Three copies was enough to suggest that I was wasting my cash and have not bought a copy since.
That is not hatred. Just sound economics allied to a lack of willingness to spend cash on something that was soley about promoting product rather than helping me as a hobbyist.

This is the main reason I do not have a subscription anymore.
It used to have a lot of cool articles and I only bought it for the articles, now it just focuses on the naked photo's, totally not my style.
Wait, what were we talking about?

Jervis or Ward centrefolds must surely be the quickest way to get sales to plummet?

White Dwarf isn't really a hobby magazine any more, it's just a series of articles designed to promote the latest product padded out with some standard advertising.
It's really very very poor. I sometimes have a flick through, but I wouldn't buy it. I knew it was past it years ago. There are old issues I can read and re-read again, when I found there wasn't the content in a magazine to do that, that's when I stopped.
The advertising is just so tediously obvious and wearisome now and there's nothing of real value. It used to be a lot more fun.

whatwhat wrote:[The "painting showcases, information etc" are in there to sell products. Hence why they put all the paints used in the painting article on the following pages. The battle reports are basically there to show off new releases. There is barely anything in the magazine which isn't designed to draw your attention towards something GW sells. "A catalog is a magazine that is published, exclusively, to sell a company's product. " isn't far off the mark.
I am really curious how a magazine that focuses on GW games in any way can have any articles in it that *don't* draw your attention towards something GW sells?? Even if you had more rules updates and articles and such as people would like to see again from this thread, the focus is *still* GW products and every one of those articles is in support of the products they sell. *Every* gaming magazine out there is written to generate interest and convince people to join the hobby, or expand their participation in the hobby in one way or another. Sure some are not as specifically focused on one seller's products like Wargames Illustrated, but others are just are singularly focused like Dragon magazine.
