Yah but the orks would build 1,000 of them.
If anything the Necrons are at even more of a disadvantage vs orks than any other race . . . because they're made of metal . . . its like having a giant bright blue LOOT MHEEEE! sign over their heads. Won't be long now, some Mek will figure out how to loot a tomb world, then all the necrons are fethed. They'll wake from their long sleep to find themselves welded onto gargants as extra gun ports.

Necrons can teleport interstellar distances... To date no one has figured out a way to stop Necrons from teleporting away for repairs.
And the moment an Ork enters the Tomb World is the moment they find themselves being pelted by Gauss Weaponry, hell, the moment they LAND on a Tomb World the Necrons will know they're there.
Raiding a Tomb World is not as easy as you seem to think. I don't actually think it's ever been done, generally the Imperium just blows it up if they can.

generally they send teams of space marines to plant thermo-nuclear devices within the central area to destroy the nevreons once and for all. they rarely make it out but it works lol, meaning that if you sneak, you will not be massed attacked by Necrons and Scarabs.
however, orks do NOT sneak, unless they are all Kommandos

looting the tau or the imperials is one thing, but the necrons? reverse engineering is not magic. if we took a laptop back to Leonardo Divinci and asked him to replicate it, and gave him the schematics, he would fail miserably. and the orks dont have schematics.

If the orks got anywhere near the internals of the monolith, it'd either teleport out to another node, or just vapourise as per the book Dark Creed. Also, it does say that a necron spacecraft sustained little visible damage from a chaos warfleet whaling on it for a few days or so, pretty much wrecked the warfleet and then only ended up warping out when the artifact it was after was destroyed by vortex weaponry.
I'd say the orks would have no chance.

I might actually try to make the monolith into a battlewagon now though and just magnatize so it cna be used as either one... excellent idea thanks for that

actually it is going to have the treads of a land raider looking like they ar haphazardly roped on, 2 wheels on the other side with a peg sticking out and a VERY overburdened grot holding it up where one wheel has fallen off (also modeled)

Are you under the impression that the Necrons, a race famous for exterminating life so completely thoroughly on a planet that not so much as a single bacterium remains, would be unable to destroy the Ork spores in the dirt?

Are you saying the orks, the race specifically designed by the old ones to defeat the necrons would be unable to defeat necrons?
TBH though it depends solely on what the orks have compared to the necrons. Alslo Orks can loot anything.

Because they did so well the first time.
Also, more than one race was created to fight the Necrons.

Can't tell you. It's a secret...

I am pretty sure that orcs, who get bigger, stronger and reproduce faster, would have a fair chance on any invasion made by the Necrons. Sure necrons have the know how and tech but its like getting a bear fight a hive of wasps near a tree where each branch has a a hive of wasps. Thea bear has an advantage over little wasps but having a gakload of them on you can get you killed...especially if you are being chased by huge-ass green wasps wanting to fight you cause its FUN!
Ok, WE could destroy the first planet in contact. BUT for the weapon to work it needs to be aimed at and takes some time, its not like emptying a bolt-pistol mag. So a planet falls or for that fact 3-4 but the orcs learn and adpat and next time , as previous posters said, a big fleet iz gonna be der and BOOM! goes the WE!
As far as an invasion is concerned I dont think Necrons even stand a chance of an overpopulated orc planet with other orcs coming along for da fight!
Again I am not talking about total anihilation scenario's, Necrons see they are losing so they teleport out.
What I would be concerned is the orks getting their hands on cron tech and adapting it...
That is scaryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...

I would say the necrons would win the space battle while being stalemated after destroying a couple of worlds. Word would spread of a good and proper fight for the orks and they would flock. Imperium would take advantage of this by attacking the depopulated ork worlds that rushed to fight the necrons. So Imperium wins and orks and Necrons lose.
The thing that always bothered me was why the Necrons never use the wraiths as assassins. Imagine the warboss getting murdered by several dozen wraiths that steal in during the night. Orks then fracture. . . Necrons clean house for a bit.
Destroyers bait Orks into foolhardy attacks that thin their numbers whilst scarabs go to work on destroying the ork reproduction cycle by going after the spores.

Nids already did that but the empire of octavius still stands, besides the squig hounds would smell the wraiths.

How would the squig hounds smell something that phases out of reality, then could travel through the ground while doing that to pop in (still phased out) and find where the biggest ork is and kill him?
The nids are trying to to do it to octavia. They are currently winning as per the 5th ed codex.

I realize they would have a scent. However when they phase into a alternate dimension and move through the solid earth toward you until they hit you base you wont have time to smell then. When you do the alarm would have already gone up as the warboss was attacked. They wouldn't be exposed until they strike. What if you're drawn out by a strike of flayed ones on another part of a camp, or led on a merry chase by a batch of destroyers. Getting sneak attacked while the alarm is already up doesn't help.
