Subject: October 15th 2011 is the 30th Anniversary of Metallica's formation
I really liked the black album, but I think enter sandman is the most overrated song on that album.
The early Metallica was great, later stuff is hit and miss between inspired and mediocre .
Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Dave Mustaine sounds like a dying cat, and you know it.

In any event, I love Metallica, but I don't feel any particular compulsion to participate in this plan. I've never really been able to comprehend the sheer fanaticism some people hold for particular musicians.

The only song which suits mustaines voice is sweating bullets, and their cover of paranoid was so-so, there was reason hetfield won't let him sing originally.
Currently debating whether to study for my exams or paint some Deathwing

I'm going to have to agree with this. Given what Metallica put out early on maintaining your streak of straight 12's on a scale of 1 to 10 is going to be nigh impossible. Load and Reload certainly have their moments of greatness but overall for Metallica they're just so-so. I do like a good bit of Garage Inc but it's covers so I really don't count it. St. Anger, I dunno if anyone would be jizzing their pants over it if it was released by another band but it probably would have been seen as a solid if not too inspired offering instead of the total abortion reputation it has with Metallica fans. And sue me but I still like Some Kind of Monster. Death Magnetic is up there with Load and Reload as close but still not quite recapturing what's gone before.
And fething Megadeath? If you have to qualify a band's greatness by saying, "Yeah the lead singer sucks but..." then you've got problems.

October 15th 2011 is the 30th Anniversary of Metallica's formation. They have influenced a lot of great bands that stand today. As they work on what is believed to be their LAST Studio album, instead of hating on other fools, hear me out this time.

Or I could listen to one of their (much better) other tracks on my own CD, at far far higher sound quality - how about that?

Hetfield is definitely a better vocalist than Mustaine, but I still like Mustaine. When it comes to actual musical composition, damn near every Megadeth song is better than damn near every Metallica song.
Megadeth>Metallica.
Iron Maiden>Metallica, for that matter, but I don't know which is better; Maiden or Megadeth.

New Wave of British Metal to be exact, which is a genre of Heavy Metal that removed the blues and psychedelic influences from heavy metal that the first wave of Heavy Metal was based on (Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin,
Uriah Heep, Budgie, Black Sabbath) sped up the tempo, added extra cheesiness, some bands even took a few punk influences (and a bit of Queen influences surprisingly enough) and toughened up the image. Just so
there's no confusion I was talking about Iron Maiden not Megadeth, Megadeth is obviously Thrash Metal.

Right, I was the one who said Maiden is better than Metallica. I'm fully aware you can't really compare them, it was just an off-hand comment.
I still stand by my statement that while Metallica's vocals are better than Megadeth's, Megadeth's music is better than Metallica's, especially Metallica's later stuff vs. Megadeth's later stuff.
Of course, this is all opinion.

Metallica has long divorced themselves from thrash, plunging instead into the realm of mediocrity along with the rest of the "big" four. Still, Kill 'em All is pretty good.I tend to find the rest of what they have produced to range from rather bland to too shameful to bother bemoaning *coughSt.Angercough* I could really care less for the band. I'm quite happy listening to other bands.

Any Dakkanauts that are into Thrash Metal should seriously consider checking out "Rigor Mortis" awesome band. Although I was little shocked to see there CD costing $95 "new" and $42 "used" on Amazon.com.

Option the first: Metallica have decided to try to do something different, like with St. Anger. And, like with St. Anger, it has failed miserably and nullified any redemption whatsoever Death Magnetic may have earned them
Option the second: This is a trick. They've recorded a couple of gakky tracks and released them early to deter people from downloading any leaked copy of their album, and are going to surprise everyone with... well, something that isn't this crap.
Option the third: This is just a gakky song and the rest of the album is (hopefully) not as moronic as this.
I know which option I'm hoping for, but I'm pretty sure I know which option is likely going to prove itself to be the truth.
