I've really enjoyed collecting this force. With 6th Edition and the no doubt 6th edition SM Codex I am hoping for some Iron Hands love in there. So I'm going to keep this force and add to it, and use it as my 1500pt Tournament Army, with a Counts as kayvann Shrike and some Morlock Assault terminators!!!

If anyone has any Pre-heresy Terminator parts suggestions let me know.

Your armour seems a bit flat and chalky, a wash maybe good?

No I wanted that effect, I want the Armour to look newish. The earlier pictures are macro, so much bigger at actual scale and with the Dullcote spray they have toned down the chalky effect. The light isn't very good on most of pictures (will sort this with another Daylight lamp at some point) which doesn't help.

And failing that, I have used dreadnought leg plates as termie shoulder pads, for a bulkier look, fit perfectly.

@TiB cheers love them going to definitely pick up some of these. I need some inspiration for Combi-Bolters as opposed to Storm Bolters.

I was thinking maybe these and converting them a bit?

No, the exact opposite. I've fallen in love with 'em. So I'm now keeping them and further to this going to expand them to be my main Tournament Army.

When 6th Edition C:SM comes out we will see if we get some Iron Hands love, maybe some special characters or Competitive builds.

I like the group shot! Looks very good, a mix of GK and SM parts would work well. Also BA could have some infulance in there too!

This army is awesome! I was very conflicted between starting up pre-heresy IH or IF, but as I have a small army of 40k era IH I went for the mighty VIIth legion instead
You should definitely hae some sort of model with a cnversion beamer in the army, as it really is a must have weapon for them

Only point of criticism would be the head for Lord Manus, but that's mainly because I really hate that sculpt, it's one of the worst for the entire sm range imo :p

He was actually beheaded at istavaan , I'm not even kidding.



I never even posted up what happened (it was 7 vs 3 Apoc battle!!!!) Anyway I charged the Emperors Children (just to be fluffy) and mauled the Death Guard on my right with the contemptor, I managed to get one Whole tactical Squad off the board in a Rhino (yay me!). The rest fought on, and Fulgrim and Ferrus Met, both got down to 1 wound and he nailed me. I never liked his head anyway, so i ripped it off with my keys and it is now attached with superglue to the belt of Fulgrim (my Club Chairman no less). I was always going to replace the head, so it's funny you mentioned it, almost pre-ternatural actually because I never mentioned in on dakka.

Anyway, I've changed jobs recently and now i'm settled I'm wanting to make this Army my Default Tournament army. So I'm going to buying THunderfires and the Landraider Achilles!

So using the new FW mk4 assault marines I will be expanding the Iron Hands, furthermore my assault termies will be coming together. Also a MOTF model with a conversion beamer is in the pipeline.

I'm still a freaked out by you mentioning the head tho....

EDIT - I have always been a secret Dorn fan, the IF, Crimson fists and Black Templars are all great with nice builds, good fluff and some nice special characters. Would like to see a Valadimir Pugh and a Captain Cortez in the Codex....

Wow sounds epic Unfortunately I've been in a rather offensive competitive gaming milieu for most of my hobby life, so the gaming side of the hobby never really caught me and I generally don't enjoy playing games to my girlfriends annoyance as she really does and I won't even play cards with her :p But it's gaming stories like this that really makes me envy you gamers sometimes And yeah, it's kinda cool that I caught on to the whole head thing when there was actually a really cool story tied to it

That's some pretty nice expansion plans as well I should have the resin parts from the Achilles on their way to me for a possible future conversion of an older mark of landraider achilles not based on the mkII/III chasis Have you considered using fw rapiers as count-as thunderfire cannons? that would be very much in keeping with the pre-heresy theme.

I can only agree that we need more imperial fist love, as they are the golden boys of the imperium and should have at least a few special characters to represent that.

You know, I never even considered using rapiers but it actually makes sense to use the Rapiers...£29 is a bit steep for a single Thunderfire, I am working on 2 Gorka Morka vehicles (using the treads). On top of this I will custom make a Quad Barrel Weapon using Plasti-struct tubes and bits and pieces. I never liked the Thunderfire Cannon model too big for a metal model and terribly bitty.

So to tie this up a bit I am collecting:-

1 x 5man Assault Squad (FW Unit)
1 x 5 man Assault Termie unit
1 x 5 man tactical termie unit
1 x 10 man Tactical Unit + Rhino
1 x Cmd Rhino (Damocles for APOC)
2 x Thunderfires
1 x Landraider Achilles
2 x Predators
1 x MOTF with Conversion Beamer
2 x Iron Clad Dreadnoughts

Okay some more bits and bobs...

With 6th Edition, I want to use some Allies to add Flavour to my Iron Hands. I will collect some of these from BLIGHT WHEEL MINIATURES and use them in two different manners. One as Imperial Guard Allies, as Veteran Infantry (nice BS 4 and Carapace armour). You could add various bits like FNP or others.



Otherwise I can use them as Servitor Retinues for my Techmarines or even as Space Marine Scouts. I really like this idea and it will make my models, unique and give more flavour to my force.

And just ou wait for the Morlocks.

I cant wait to see more of these guys!!!

On the subject of Morlocks, I have everything set in head except for STORMBOLTERS......I am thinking of using wrist mounted ones like GK's with a big Drum Magazine. Alternatively getting hold of the Tartaros Terminator Stormbolters, as they look amazing.

So 5 will TH/SS versions. The other 5 will be SB + PF with a Cyclone, with the Sergeant having a nice Steampunk Power weapon.

To rough their appearances up a bit I'd suggest you buying the tartaros upgrade kit, the combi bolters there are awesome with the extra options, and the close combat weapons are super cool and would be a nice alternative for counts as pf's

I'd also definitely go with the tartaros terminator combi bolters (storm bolters are post heresy ) as they look great and are imo much better than both the wrist mounted GK ones or the standard storm bolters

Good point, never thought that Storm Bolters are Post Heresy. I'm going to try and buy some of the FW Combi-Bolters.

That's why csm termies don't have storm bolters They have combi bolters cus they still use their pre-heresy gear :p

Also remember, no crux terminatus They're also post heresy However there's several refs in the HH to a veterans crux, which I have chosen to take full advantage of

PM sent, give me PM back! Come over and meet us, we are all trying to play 6th at the moment, we all look like morons and rules lawyers but it's a giggle as we all make silly mistakes trying to get to grips with the new ruleset.

Don't worry on Cost, we have loads of stuff in the Club cupboard, which you can borrow to round out your force or help you along.

ONWARDS and Upwards....

Taking inspiration from the Damned Artificer, I am now making some custom parts for my force. These are only simple 2D elements or Symbols, and at this time are just Storm Shields for my Morlocks.

Made the original masters out of various parts:-



Bought some Easy Mould.



Followed the instructions, cut up some cartons for the bases and basically press moulded them.



Dried it off once it had softened, and put it in the carton bases then pressed the originals in.







The Green Stuff is in them curing as we speak, and we shall see how well these turn out and if i need to refine the method, or add further steps to get good quality. The advantage to these symbols is that I intend using them to create vehicle doors and extra's to make custom parts. I also intend to build on them to make ever more complex symbols and masters.



As I've said, I don't mind doing mind press moulds, but for complex 3D resin in Silicon Moulds, I would sooner pay specialists and parts creators like Joel over at ANVIL Industries, MAXMINI.eu or The Damned Artificer and Machinator in the US.

EDIT - For those of you wondering, I am pretty much a layman Modeller, I like simple conversions and simple GS work. I look for simple/ elegant solutions and press moulding seems to be a cheap and easy why to recreate a custom parts. Why pay for the lovely FW doors, when with a bit of imagination, some parts etc, you can custom make your own parts and then roll them out across your force, I finally feel like I'm starting to do my fighting forces the justice they deserve.
