I have made a 1st attempt at an Iron hand Librarian. I like the idea of a Librarian that specialises in the Machine Spirit powers, like might of Ancients or Machine Curse etc.



But I'm kind of at a loss as to how to finish him? Should I get a cloaked backpack? Or make a Mechanicum type one? I think I should I do him in the normal colour scheme as he is Pre-heresy and therefore before the Codex decree that all of them need to paint their blue armour.

Also any other idea's, like servo skulls, a modified backpack anything....He just seems to be missing something........If you see anything on your travels round the tinter-webz please post it up here so I can get some inspiration.

Yes that cloak!!!!!!!!!!! If he's having a jump pack how about having a servo harnes kninda thing on it? As well?

I think a chainmail cloak could work, but then again that could cause some problems as it is hard to make. the chain loincloth from the chaos lord kit might work too, to give a more rough mechanical look instead of cloth, and then maybe some sort of servo harness for him as well

Okay working on a "Cog-mail" Cloak integrated into a Backpack with extra's....You shall see it soon.

Also I am Painting my Servitors, I really like Big Daddies from BIOSHOCK so I am copying this Colour scheme for a bit of variety.



Basic Paint job thus far.. I quite like this paint job as it's a bit different from the Iron Hands themselves.

Sorry for the lack of love lately, I've had a break from 15mm to work on some more Pre-Heresy / Heresy Stuff.

I don't know about everyone else but for me, one of the best Characters in 30k is Constantin Valdor. I mean this guy is all round Stand-up Mary Sue Demi-God.



Inspired by this Image... I've made a mock up of my own version which I will use within our 30k Campaign.

I decided that with his Halberd being a Fire Arm and Power Weapon, he needed some extra weapons or at least some extra cover for his fore Arm's. I beefed up the vambraces with miniature shields, I decided this would allow a Custodes to back hand blow, or deflect an inbound Blade if his halberd was trapped or locked in battle with another. Halberds are great but once someone is inside your Guard, self defence close in would be a Brutal hand to hand fight.







There will be better Photo's to follow, once I find a Slotta-base!

Hello Guys, long time no update.

I've come back to finish this project after 18 months doing Cold War Flames of War. I''ve also done a moderately successful blog and moved house!

Alot of FW stuff has been released, and I am now playing catch up - This will be my sole Army and I will only play 30k with it.

Well here is the latest model - A SPARTAN! Note the Stein, the correct unit for consumption of Alcohol, but anymore than one and your model will suffer!



I have re-engineered some of the model to be more sturdy, including drilling out the Quad Las-cannons to be more Robust.





I even changed the Bolter barrels to be more robust.





So far I have spent 16 hours on this, getting it right and it's not the easiest thing to build.

I pinned all the sections with pieces of Paperclips and drilled both sides with a Pin Vice to ensure a perfect fit.

It's nowhere near finished but for the money I have paid, I am taking my time and getting this 100% right, no rush jobs. The tracks on this model are a Bitch, and I had to reconstruct them with plasticard and Green Stuff. This is definitely not for novices and you need to be happy heating, and bending warped parts in Hot and Cold Water. You can see the Track parts I've had to build up here.



I can see 10 more hours at least, and I have to paint the Interior, well.....just because. It's a centre piece so time and effort should be spent on it.

I'm now pinning the Body...



I use a Pin vice, cut a small piece of Paper Clip, put it in the Hole and then Align and Press against the Side.

This leaves a small mark, on the other side and I drill out that mark and the pieces fit perfectly together.

Okay here we go...The Beast...





I had to rebuild the Tracks, these need to filed smooth again but you can see the amount of work and repairs needed on the Tracks. From my research on the internet an awful lot of people have problems with the tracks as well. I rebuilt sections of it my self for a nice better looking fit.



The model isn't glued, it just has pins in place, so I can pull it apart easily for painting and Greenstuffing gaps and improving the level of finish on the Model.

It also allows me to paint the internal area's easily.







So I reckon another 10 hours of filing and filling gaps, before I prime the exterior and start painting that.

Okay, more updates.

Added Magnets for the Guns, the model does apparently come with a method for the guns working. It's a bit of a hassle getting it to work. My advice, is that if you've paid £98 for the model don't cheap out, pay the extra few quid get some Magnets.

This Model is a centrepiece, as such I'm taking my time, getting it right, I've spent probably a further £30 on weathering powders (MIG stuff) and other elements to make it look good. I see no point in paying all this money only to do a crap job of it.



With the above sentiments in mind, I ripped apart the tracks and rebuilt them.....The tracks are a Grade A pain in the rear.



But because I working on the components seperately, it's easy to pull apart the unglued sections and work on them, to get the alignment right, but also to sand and file the Green Stuff to get a good level of finish.



If you look closely, you can see I took the targeter off, and put it securely on top of a piece of Brass rod, so it can sit snugly inside the Plastic tubing and move independently of the Gun.

I personally don't like the way they implemented the QUAD LAS, on a normal 40k LR the Lascannons can move almost 180 degrees. These most certainly cannot....For £98 I expected better, it is nit-picking but this stuff is the high end of the market where quality and aesthetics matter.



I'm starting to Prime components, this is the rear of the main body, some slight overspray from the previous bits, but it won't matter at all because when I prime this bit it will cover it completely.



One things I'm quite pleased with is the GW TECHNICAL PAINT - IMPERIAL PRIMER. Often when a model is primed you spot issues or area's that draw your eyes attention, I can now file or clean those area's and rather than obscure detail by spraying primer over and over an area, I can target the small area's of rectification with the paint on primer. This is a major advantage because I can spray prime, adjust, improve, clean and then touch up. This makes the end result much better. I'm taking the Rolls-Royce approach of slow steady, and perfection, this model won't be perfect but striving for this is good thing.

One thing I'm doing on the Side is my Characters, I've got an extensive collection of Metal models i've bought cheaply and then stripped in NITRO MORS and then wire brushed the models to give them the look of new models. Here are the ones I've ear marked for conversions and painting in the next few months.



My current favourite is this one, I think with some extra elements he can look very Iron hands, he will be my PROXY for an on foot version of Oath (the Vehicle Commander Specialist).



I'm thinking, for his left hand, it should be either a Heresy era Bolt Pistol on a Bionic Arm, or maybe the Praetor weapon left arm...





With a nice Pauldron, I think he has that Early Iron Father Aestheic, before they went a bit mad for Bionics.

I quite like this old model, I've given him a basic paint job, I need to do some washing, detailing etc, but you can see where this is going. I want to add a Plumed Helmet to his belt, so he looks like a Senior Commander, surveying the battlefield.



This guy....Will be my Master of signal.



I want to get a Nuncio Vox, backpack, but also the left arm. I think this will like he's got lots of systems on the go...



Lots to do, I even have another 10 Marines to do...

So I weighed the Beast.....700g / 0.7kg, it's a really heavy beast, the waste was just under 0.5kg. So at least I got a fairly hefty model for my money.



Started the paint job.....







Still lots to do, I need to wash this to tone down the metalics alot. I also need to varnish and then decal this thing before I start to weather it. Still all told I'm pretty happy thus far, and hopefully I can get this finished this week so I can crack on with some infantry!

I need to smarten up the Decals with Varnish, finish the Tracks, do some sponge chipping on the decals etc, to tone them down, and finally some weathering. But you can see where this is going now.

That looks great now that it's all finished. You're perseverance with those treads and the kit in general has really paid off.

Thanks Medium, it's the 1st time I've taken this approach. I'm quite pleased and will do exactly the same with a Legion Glaive / Blade / Sicarian for my next big models.

I'm going to redo my Rhino's to match this style of painting. I really like the Legion Dirty / Dusty look, much less Comic book than normal 40k style.

Word of Caution, be careful with weathering pigments, I am currently in the dog house with the wife, because a small amount ended up on the underneath of my fore arm. I cleaned up, washed my hands, but not my under arm/ elbow, sat on new Sofa.....HOLY **** - Vanish made it worse. It's clean now, but I suffered a one way transmission about my stupid ****ing Hobby and how messy it is.....

Just found out that FW are working on GORGON TERMINATORS!

The Future Autek Mor - Going to build a Servo Arm for him and magnetise it, hopefully I can run it as a Praetor plain and simple or as Autek.
