Great models - but not sure why they're BA.

Only one comment on the painting - you're doing fantastic OSL for all the power weapons, but don't forget that the Chaplain's crozius is a power weapon too!

Eh, think of it as a blog consisting of units in any of the loyalist chapters (except damn space puppies, they are basically chaos anyway and should be excommunicated from the Imperium!). I just build any marine units I want, paint em in the chapter colors, and call it a day

Converted. Its an AoBR body, with an assault cannon arm and a missile launcher arm, both modified to hold a pair of IG autocannons.

I spent the day refurbishing an old predator I had... this was one of my first painted models, and was pretty poorly done.

Looks much better now IMO.

That predator is the gak.

Oh yes, the gak.

It looks like this before:

Thats not actually a picture of THIS predator, but another one. This one was slightly less finished, but you get the basic idea. They both were of a very similar style. I probably won't re-do this one, because I have so many other unfinished models I don't really have time to go back and re-do models I'm not happy about.

LOL! Its suprising how an airbrush can change a miniture!

Yea... the old paintjobs I did weren't BAD, per say.... just really, really flat. Very hard to do any kind of shading on a tank, and make it look good, without an airbrush.

Nice airbrushing!

Started to repaint over the predator I posted above... sprayed right over the old paint, stickers and all. Airbrushing is thin enough that there is no appreciable loss of detail (I think).

Yea, its basically a proof of concept, with that concept being that I don't have to strip my tanks to re-paint them The first predator I repainted wasn't finished, so I wasn't sure how this would look on a finished one. So far so good, so I'll probably be redoing all my predators / rhinos / land raiders to my new airbrushed style of painting, which looks much better.

Trying to make the coils glow on the predator... what do you think of the OSL effect? I think I got the coils to look bright enough white, and the glow is subtle but noticable.

I'd turn down the PSI on the airbrush if you can. It is a good start, but could use some work

the whole tank is a WIP now, but what do you mean by lower the PSI? For where? The lascannon? Why?

If you turn down the pressure that the airbrush is spraying at, you can control the osl a little more, Right now IMHO its kind of thick, because it is very opaque. Turning down the PSI will make it more transparent, and more like osl

Some WIP melta gunners.. I now have 10 melta jump marines if I count the WIP guys

Do you drill your barrels?

Normally, but my roommate broke my drill bit and I haven't had a chance to buy a new one yet.

I just paint black holes on the gun barrels now.

Finished 5 more guys today... 4 melta gunners and a chainsword guy.

I think it would be cool if I went through painting a marine step by step here. I'm going to be doing another batch of 5 ASM, this time all with chainswords. I'll post each step on here as I go.

For the baseline step, obviously I just based, trimmed, and built 1 asm -

I like the heresy shoulder pads! Any plans to do full studded plate? Maybe get some forgeworld guys?

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

I'd like very much to grab some of the MKII Pre-Heresy Assault Marine guys from forgeworld eventually to use as vanguard, but for now I'm happy with regular guys for the most part.

How to paint the model! step by step assault marines! I'm doing these guys in a batch of 5. These first few steps I consider the basecoat, and they took me ~ 2 hours to do so far, not counting assembly.

Step 1: Base coat the model with VGC Dark Green mixed with VMG Imperial Blue, 6 drops to 1 drop, mixed with 4 drops thinning and 4 drops satin varnish. Just do light coats, and go back to hit any spots you miss. You need 100% coverage here.

Step 2: VGC Goblin Green + Thinner, 1-1 ratio.
Be sure to only spray this downward towards the top of the model, so it falls naturally on exposed parts of the armor.

Step 3: VMC Light Green + Thinner, 1-1 ratio
Spray this at a steeper angle downwards, so it hits less armor than the previous coat.

Step 4: VGC Transparent Green + Thinner, 1-2 ratio (filter layer)
You basically want to hit the entire model with a light coat of this, to give it a nicer shade of green.

Step 5: VGC Black Ink + Thinner, 1-3 ratio.
This is the shadow layer, and is mostly sprayed from the underside of the model upwards, under the jets, under the arms, behind the legs, etc. Anywhere that there shouldn't be much light falling on gets hit with this. It also acts as a basecoat for the rocks.

Step 5: VMC Stonewall Grey + Thinner, 1-1 ratio
Spray the rocks, leaving the middle a darker black.

Step 6: VMC Ivory + Thinner, 1-1 ratio
You want to do only the edges of the rocks with this to give them a final highlight.

Step 7: VMC Terra Earth + Thinner, 1-1 ratio
Step 8: VMC Florescent Green, undiluted.
I skipped a picture here, but the goal is to paint the base with the earth (duh), then to paint the top of the head, top of the shoulder pads, and the top of the jet pack with the florescent green to really make them pop.

more airbrushing!
Step 9: A coat of badab black along the shoulder guards (just around the edges), around the helmet edges, and all over the arms and legs.

Step 10: Paint the chainsword and bolt pistol VGC Scarlet Red

Step 11: Paint the tips of the weapons VGC Orange Fire

Step 12: A bit of Black Ink near the base of the chainsword and back end of the bolt pistol

Step 13: Your done airbrushing at this point, so throw down a coat of satin varnish to protect the work so far.

Loving the step by step so far! Wish I had an airbrush though.

Did a bit more painting this morning before work...

Step 14: GW Black ink in the jet intakes and mouth piece

Step 15: GW Codex Grey around the jet intakes

Step 16: GW Chaos Black around the weapons, exposed suit between plates, and shoulderguard rims.
