more work today!

Step 17: VMC Dark Grey on the harness, belt buckle, chainsword guard, and pistol clip.

Step 18: GW Dwarf Bronze on the Aquillia and skulls, as well as fuel pipes on backpack.

Step 19: .2MM Black Micron Pen applied to seams in armor and the harness.

Step 20: GW Flesh Wash (OOP Ink) applied to the areas where step 18 was used.

Didn't take step by step pictures for this, but here it is after some more work!

Basically just add codex grey to the harness as a highlight, then skull white to the harness as an extreme highlight. Then paint the chainsword and bolt pistol with some mithril silver, and then outline the chainsword blade with black ink. Paint the eyes with a spritz of blue for the OSL, then paint it imperial blue, then light blue, then a final highlight on the eyes of skull white.

here's the squad's sergeant I'm working on, while I'm posting pictures.

Next project is going through the 60 or so tac marines I have unpainted!

This is about 2 hours work so far... fixed assemblies that were broken, and made bases for them with rocks. Then airbrushed primer coat, and 3 layers of highlights. From this angle its hard to see that though... but still. These won't be painted to super standards, but I want to see how fast I can pump out 20 tac marines.

If you could that would be amazing Horst! I was just thinking the same as Hazzer, that this tutorial was definitely going to have to be reverse-engineered for Ultras.
Beautiful work on your Aurora Chapter btw, I subbed as soon as I saw the first few pics. You should consider re-creating your step by step as a tutorial post in it own right when you've finally covered all the steps, a lot of people would find it helpful I'm sure.

HAHA!! I have actually been buying the models I need to fill out my 2500pt list Lots of work will be done on these boys in the near future, Happy to give them a little love after 15 years of neglect
The shear volume of them is far less intimidating than my Chaos

then buy more ><

I just got back from christmas, spent another hour and a half on my tac marines. So far I have spent ~4 hours working on them, and this is pretty much how they all look -

So far looks promising. Considering that I have 20 at that level of paint so far, thats only 12 minutes per model to get them to that level. I figure they are about 40% done.... at this rate, it will take me 30 minutes to paint a single figure.

Might be worth it to try to do a few commissions then, if the end results are good enough to warrant it. charge $4.00 per model, and $8.00 an hour is a fairly reasonable rate for something I enjoy doing.

I'm amazed of the high standard of painting, with that speed you keep finishing your models! I suppose an airbrush helps, but it is an impressing task to finish the miniatures at this rate!

thanks

A lot of these are probably going to wind up on ebay eventually... once its all fully painted, I'll have more than enough to the point where I can probably just sell a 2000 point marine army and still have 10,000 points or so lying around

Then I can use that as start up money to buy another race.

but my new years resolution is to finish painting all my marine models before starting another army, so I'm trying to paint fast

Are you using super macro?

The camera was set to widescreen mode instead of 8 MP mode... I set it, and pictures look better now!

Some more WIP pictures of all of the marines, with a few close ups. So far this is about 30 minutes per marine invested.... not bad for speed painting.

For comparison sake, these are a few of my original tac marines, that took probably 2 hours each to paint -

Thought it was about time I posted a picture of all my painted Aurora Chapter marines together!

In this picture, I have:
5x predators
2x land raiders
3x rhinos
1x razorback
4x dreadnoughts
2x vindicators
1x storm raven
2x land speeders
50x tactical marines
45x assault marines
10x biker marines
15x terminators

I still have a LOT left unpainted... another ~10 terminators, another ~40 tac marines, another ~30 bikers.... plus another baal, 3 drop pods, another rhino, another furioso, and 2 more land speeders... not to mention like 5x metal captains.

I am not usually impressed by most Marine armies I see, but yours is simply stunning. The green and black go together very well and it looks gorgeous. Very definitely one of the best Space Marine armies I've ever seen

Agreed, stunning combinations on your work Horst. I really need to drag my airbrush out of storage and get practising. For a future addition to the predator force have you considered the FW Predators, I'm a big fan of their sleeker turrets. Although saying that I saw the new heresy era predator the other day, that would also be a worthy addition too.
