It would be great if I actually wanted 20 Warriors. But I don't. I want 20 Immortals.

I have to go back and check to see what my guess in the rumor thread was. This'll take a min or two.

Edit: Apparently this is going to take longer than a couple of min because the search function isn't working for me right now. :/

I posted the correct content about a month ago (25th January) in the Necron thread, when I got a look at the early WD.

Something like An overlord with a barge, 2 lords, a cryptek, 20 warriors, 10 immortals, 10 scarabs and two archs. Might be a fun list.

Without any conversions, 2 BF and a CCbarge kit make a nice 1250 point list

Overlord w/warscythe and CCBarge
20 Warriors w/ Ghost Ark
20 Warriors w/ Ghost Ark
10 Immortals (tesla)
10 Scarabs

I'd probably get two CCbargs kits and make this list at 1500:

Overlord w/Phaeron and Res Orb
Overlord w/Phaeron and Res Orb
19 Warriors w/Ghost Ark
19 Warriors w/Ghost Ark
10 Immortals (tesla)
10 Scarabs
Annihilation Barge
Annihilation Barge

At 1850 I'd add:
5 Crypteks
1 Veil Lord
2 Lanceteks w/Solar Pulse
2 Tremorteks
A Lord w/ Warscythe, Res Orb and MSS

and at 2k I'd add
a nicely equipped unit of Wraiths.

My assessment is that the Necron battle force is a great starting point for a Necron Army. Throw in a box of Praetorians to make some Lords and Crypteks, and you are in pretty good shape for just about any casual tourny. With a few more additions, a person can make a decent 2k army for right around $400 MSRP.
It's less of a deal for established players (like myself) but I can see myself getting one anyway. I don't have any Immortals or Deathmarks and I don't have any Ghost Arks.

This is maybe the best battleforce out by what comes in it, in my opinion. I wish I hadn't bought everything already and so could get some value out of this.

GW's compulsive buying strategy is slowly seeping into me. I've been saving up for weeks to start an Ork army. Must resist buying this...

They really need to start putting HQ's in Battleforces in any regard. Even if it goes from $105 to $115 or the like. It'd be great to be all set to make and play a army with 1 box.

Well first they'll need to make plastic HQs

Which seeing how Fantasy has tons of heroes and lords, it shouldnt be that hard. Yet there seems to be no movement at all for plastic 40k characters, aside from those who are boxed in with a unit (IG, Necrons, etc)

Then again though even with all of these new plastics, there still arent any characters in the battalions Thats GW logic for you

Wow, didn't think of it that way. If you bought two of these, you could fill up your troops choices!

This would've been a great box for third edition necrons

Pretty good deal, has just what I need to finish rounding out my army. Some lychguard or praetorians would have been nice, but I'll take the money saved and get a box of those on the side.

Yeah i'll be getting one of these when the new wraiths come out, I had the foresight to hold out when buying my first lot of Necrons in the hope that the battleforce would be a good deal, I'm gratefully pleased I did. This should also give me the time to finish off the Necrons I have waiting.

More warriors than I need but the scarabs are good and the spare warriors will go to make good lords, crypteks and deathmarks with the spares from the other box sets I have.

It probably means GKs are still selling like hot-cakes without needing extra encouragement, while Necron-sales have been comparatively lackluster (especially given the rather good deal this offers).

Generally, now Battleforces are set up as second wave releases or preparation for second waves. They boost sales of models from previous waves, provide a better value so people who bought the models on initial release may buy more to expand their force, and provide an easy core to build around for new players who are drawn in by the second wave models. Say two of these and a HQ, and you have a good core of an army to add more exotic units around. The dual kit of the Ark actually benefits this battleforce, as you can either get a transport/buff vehicle, or a Heavy Support option.

HQ units are less important in battleforces, and they are designed to be usable in multiples. 3 of these battleforces, and you can use everything in it. if they had a HQ in it, you would be paying for 1 or 2 extra HQ models you don't need.

As for plastic HQ, if the fantasy mini-sprues continue to do well, (well there are supposedly like 24 more for fantasy in the pipeline) we will probably see some plastic HQ for 40K alongside 6th edition and hardback codices. Generic HQs, things like SM Chaplains and Librarians, Chaos PA Lords and Sorcerers, maybe IG Commissars, Eldar Autarchs and Farseers, things like that.
