Two dual kits in battle force... interesting. Something is changing inside GW?

Probably not.

It's more likely the simple fact that dual kits are becoming more numerous, meaning there's less of a selection for GW to choose from for the battle force compositions.

I'm not trying to!

But I mean, when you compare the Vampire Counts Battalion(an army with three "multikits" in the form of the Mortis Engine/Coven Throne, the Vargheist/Crypt Horrors, and the Black Knights/Hexwraiths--all rare/special choices) to the Necron battleforce you can see a marked difference simply based on how the kits are labeled for the army proper.

At least that's my take on the matter. You can keep hoping though, maybe Dark Angels will get a combination Jetbike/Motorcycle kit?

A $140 vlaue for $105, pretty good GW. Unfortunately the kit contains an ark

Those actually look like units that could be feasibly used as a basis for an army, but it'd still cost you what your saving and then some to actually get a decent army out of it. £65 seems a tad much to me though, and that it all costs nearly £100 seperatly is a bit of a joke (20 warriors were £20 a few years ago so I don't know where the other £70 is coming from....).

For a necron player, that seem like a fantastic set, since more often than not, you'll have as many fancy units as you need, and this gives you the needed baseline units. They kept it nice and simple.

This $105 battleforce plus the $33 command barge gets you a 700+ pt army for $138... that's pretty awesome!!!

Just to clarify for people coming into this thread the box does allow the units to built as the other unit. So immortals can be built as deathmarks and the ghost ark can be built as the doomsday ark.

What universe were you in where warriors were 20 for £20? That was never the case.

GK are probably already too profitable to bother making a battle force for them. They have no units that people don't buy that they can put into the battleforce for "savings".

It was you telling a joke. Can you blame them for not noticing?

But yeah, I happen to agree with you. This is no 'change' at GW other than they're doing more dual-purpose kits (which is a good thing), and since they're doing more of them, more of them will naturally end up in the BattleForce.

How does the necron battleforce stand up when thinking about using it as a starting place for a competitive necron army? What is the useless or out of place unit for the necron box?

This seems ok for someone starting off with necrons, but it's pretty useless for someone with an older edition necron army. Warriors were plentiful and that's the majority of the box.
I really wish they would've put in a CCB box instead of the ghost ark and a more even warrior/immortal ratio. Myabe thrown in a cryptek or two? You know, something where you could play an actual game out of the box? Is that too much to ask?

I dont think finecast is allowed in BF, just like metals

Although I think swapping out a few warriors, scarabs (so theres one box of warriors used), and the ark for Lych Guard/Praetorians and a Barge would have been more enticing

Besides, BF have never really been known to fully make armies without the addition of at least one thing or conversions

IMO as a starting place (reading, you don't have anything and need a place to go from) this is a great box. You'll use everything in there. We'll maybe not the swarms, but those come along as part of the necron warrior sprue, so it's not like you missed something better and got swarms instead. It's a great buy at retail, and that much better if you do discount mail order. IMPULSE BUY

It seems to me that a lot of people cant get enough of scarabs

That and wraiths but no one makes the new spider-head wraiths

Necrons have lucked out with this. I built my Necron army years ago with two BF's. a Lord, a monolith, 10 Immorals, and done. Looks like they are getting to do the same thing again. Now, if only Reavers were better, the DE box would also be highly useful.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

I've converted warriors into Immortals (holding tesla/gauss with converted wires in backspine) so this is very AWESOME to have

I assume you converted Dark Elf Priestesses?

Joking aside, I'm tempted to do exactly this.

I am thinking that two of these plus a command barge, a box of pratorians for a court and an Overlord might be a fun army.

Something like An overlord with a barge, 2 lords, a cryptek, 20 warriors, 10 immortals, 10 scarabs and two archs. Might be a fun list.

Well, in fairness, all you need is a CCB to make a fully playable Necron army. Points-wise, between that and the BF it's a pretty darn good deal. At least by GW standards.

I could see new Necron players buying two battleforces, easy.
