Subject: The Iron Warriors 122nd Log; Dark Apostle dread WIP
Update time, i've got the Apostle-naught half ways done, still working on it, there's alot of adustments, touch ups and so on to go, but it's far enough along i feel comfortable showing it in a WIP. Fluff to explain the colours and so on later, as well as some back story.
I've also finished the first squad's modelling (well back middle guy needs fixing, he dropped on my desk and is currently held together with white-tac) as well as setting up a normal chaplain for pre-heresy painting to fit with the dread.
C&C welcome, but remember it's the dreads a work in progress.

So... this update is less a painty progress type, more of a coming soon type, though there's photo's so lets start with them.
Yeah, 2 sorcs in the WIP as well as making moves on those ten termies. I'm also making a major purchase this month; 10 mk3 marines, 2 deminos rhino's and 2 razorback turrets. I'm building the small 400pt force for a tournie next month in pre-heresy marines. Watch this space... Also within the next few days, a guide to doing rear glow effects as seen on my dark apostle dread, and soon the sorc.

Daemon engines are not uncommon in the armies of chaos, they can vary in size from the Defiler to the Soul grinder and Decimator. There are a number of uncommon engines in use by different factions, including the Leviathan and the Kraken engines, but a new varient though to be a rare has become increasingly common. It has yet to be granted a singular title by any of the Adeptus orgernisations, though common troops have called it anything from the Daemon-knight to the Colossus Engine. It would appear, at first glance, to be a variant of the Defiler engine, similar to the Soul grinder, but this would be an error.
Thought he basic frame work would appear similar, our wise counterparts at the Adeptus Mechanicus have identified it's mutagenic nature. The engine appear to have been formed from a host of scrap mechanical creatures, possibly some corrupted soul within a tank or other machine playing host to a possessive spirit. There are a few theories in play as to how it happens.
Theorem 1; as argued by Magos 99834490- Beta of an unidentified department
During its death throws the defiler engine, or possibly a soul grinder who are critically damaged by the Emperors finest find the best way to surive is through the use of a host. They crab the nearest body, living or death, ally or foe, and begin integrating it into the mechanical housing. This half breed host is then able, either slowly or instantly depending on its access to the warp, to reform itself into a being closer in nature to a humanoid. This creature is almost always violant in the extreme, armed in the excess and as given to rational actions as other forces of the eternal foe.
Theorem 2; as argued by Magos Dan'thek of the Bio-enginseer department 4357 gama, Praxis system. Executed M41.999.19.3.13, original data assumed destroyed.
There is evidence the daemon engine in question is a chance accident, replecated on mass. The presence of the so called 'Obliterator Virus' in it's mechanicus and biological elements suggest it was once a living host and machine, blended by this aggressive disease. One of the several examples sampled contained evident of a Dreadknight structure, with a host of possible Space Marine origins. Whilst this suggestion could be posed as heretical in nature, it does not chance to fact of the matter. The Virus has proven to be effective again even the blessed warriors of the Emperors, previously thought to be immune to even the most tempting daemons this could prove to be a new chapter in the war against the forces of the Eye. If it is as i fear... Then it is fully plausible this weapon could bring our defences low long before even the Traitors land upon our world.
It is worth noting that the colossus engines have been reported to be capable of matching fire power and the defences our the noble Knight titans. If these creatures are capable of being bred on mass, we could be facing a mechanical war that would favour the arch-enemy, and not our blessed warriors. I write this document in the hopes that if you see one of these creature, you too can bring it to it's death. We also request that you contact your nearest Adeptus Administratum office or our allies in the Adeptus Mechanicus. Quote the following access key when reporting the incident. We must gather all information before its too late
And now with the lore done, here's a new WIP Colossus Engine

So i've finished the first set of arms and the warsmith body, what do we think? there's a cropped version of it to show roughly how the effects go. I know it looks rough, but this model is a complete recycle, so it's always going to be... less crisp.

@regie; i actually use him as logan under my current space wolves army lists. Until the chaos release, i'm avoiding the current codex; not chaos marines
Update time, vindicator's nearly done, it's an old model from 2006/7 when the models were first apoc'd (£50 for 3 i think?) so it's not exactly up to my usual modelling standard, but here is how it's stands before i do touch ups and work on the barrel effects;

However i've got a new project. I've traded the last of my ork extra's (now down to about 1500-2k, a nice sized force) in return for ace chaos stuff including a new defiler. Now, before i started i've decided to take my lighting obession to the next level. I've Bought (but they've not yet arrived) some LED's.... which means glowing tanks are coming. Both of the next models are going to recieve the treatment, hence the low level of WIP involved at current. Both models are little better than blue-tacted mock up's pre instillation.
May i present the bare bones; Knight titan and Scourge Engine!
\
I'm not expecting feedback at this stage... i'm just hoping to get some interest from my handful of followers in what is to come...

Behind the iron: 122nd grand company - a brief history.
Towards the end of the Great Crusade, some 20 years before it came to a close, the Iron Warriors Companies began to split in to ever smaller companies. It was a tactic aimed at hiding their strength from both friend and foe, for Perturabo, ever cautious of his brothers and father, did not wish his might to be seen. So it was ever smaller Grand companies, measuring between 90 and 900 marines began to spring up. There's no precise figure on how vast his legion grew during this sprint siege tactica, but most estimates put the figure in the region of 15000-20000 Astarte, granting him one of the largest legions, save perhaps the Ultramarine and word bearers.
It began standard practise for these adhoc companies to number themselves, each on representing a single detachment, though they were often working in groups of three or four grand companies during sieges. The most remarkable, but un-noted of these was the 122nd grand company. Due to the unique circumstances which gave birth to the 122nd, it was given the unusual detchment size of 1500 warriors (note; sourced from several of the primary companies, as well as a number of the sub-GC's). Quite what these were are lost to the chaos that followed, but it is worth noting they appear in the records of no less than nine major mechanicus outposts (several of which were 'returned' to the mainstream fold, having been seperated since the Long Night). It is believed these frequent encounters lead to an usually close alliance between the legion and machine cults.
This friendship would later lead to dark and more damnedable things... but during the time crusade it gave rise to a newly developed STC.
Scorpion Assault Vehicle; or by any other name....
The scorpion is in fact a rare vehicle, rarer indeed that almost any other tank in use, because scorpion was in use for only 20 years. During the Horus heresy it became lost on one of the major manufactorum worlds. The Scorpians design would later be discovered and adapted into a vehicle known to modern historians as the "Razorback".
There is some conjecture as to the exact origin of the Scorpion, many placing its first use as a refitted group of rhino's during the siege of Kharlax IV where an unidentified race of terran origin had formed a great defence, it's final stand against the might of the ever expanding crusade. The trenchs had been designed wide enough for the defenders own tanks to fit in and move freely, but were far too small for the heavier support of either the Imperial Army or the Space marines own notable designs would fit.
The MK1 Rhino had, however, shown a great deal of fortune in moving through the enemies on networks. So it was a rear mounted turret on the rhino's came to be, earning it the nickname the Scorpion. Though it had a host of turrets crafted during the siege (usually anything they could get to work in a pair) it was later decided that three basic designs would be mass produce, and fourth in smaller quantities. These were the Twin linked plasmagun and lascannon, design to deal with both heavy infantry and the light armour of the trench enemies, a twin linked lascannon and a twin linked heavy bolter. Later the Repear Autocannon found its way into the arsenal in smaller numbers due to its high flexibility in smaller city skermish fights, but due to the hybrid nature of the tank it was the most difficult to engineer in any great quanitity and with any form of quality.
When the Horus Heresy struck, and entire worlds sank back into the night, the Scorpian became little more than a faded memory, a handful of unusual rhino's sat in the great arsenals hidden deep with the 122nd's fortress on Medrengard.
Now it's WIP time. Here is a handful of basic assembled models, blured due to the basic pre-modified nature of them. I'm also waiting on some shoulder pads.
The second photo shows the tank in its magnetised state. I'm making sure i can switch the weapons on this bad boy.
So begins this tale of ancient myth and mkIII armour.

The original name of the world, Medrenax, once boasted a population in the billions, which was lost around M39,454. Its new titled, The Iron Lung, refers to the insidicous growth upon the planet, a network of steel, bone and rock that goes to the lowest edges of the crust of the planet to the highest reaches of its atmosphere. It is one of the many examples of the Medrengard style guard camps and birth place of its most noted forces, the Medrenax 407th Legion. Other worlds include Vrosk IV, Hreuk and the now dead world of Drukiar minor.
Of the native forces of the Iron Lung the most dangerous belong to the Dark Mechanicus. Even on a world infested with chaotic technologies, monster and freaks they stand apart. Obsessed with the acquisition of new machines, be they captured or built from archaic STC's and experimenting with the Obliterator Virus they have moved into the Iron Lung and spread like a disease. Where it not for the rival factions, notably the 5 Iron Regents, they would have spread across the world and turned it into another Forgeworld long ago. The Iron Regents are a collective of high ranking powers on the world, 4 lesser factions of which the Mechanicus form one and the Medrenax Militia form another and The Iron Warrior 122nd Company form the fifth ruling grand power.
At any time any of the 4 residential forces may be called upon to go to war along side the 122nd. This forms a large body of the Tithes they Iron warriors demand for allowing the factions protection on this fortress world.

So i've completed the pre-heresy rhino, i've decided to add a few more details than usual, i've also shifted the rust into a 'darker' pigment, since i want to show long term wear and tear rather than the living decay i use on the normal rhino's. I've also included a photo of the interior to show the power rig for the LED's, as you can see its easy to swap and unplug.
I'm rather proud of this tank, there's a few touch ups i may do later today, but overall it's my favorite tank to date.

now for an update.... eh, of sorts. I had some requests for shots of it in the dark to get an impression of how it looks. First is a photo of the finish tank, with both bolters! The first two photo's are with only natural light from outside and the LED's, the second two are in the total darkness. It seriously chucks out some light as the 4th photo shows...

Update time.... now before you see it i must mention it's a rather battered looking model. I've had it for several months, and decided to refit it with LED's (no small task, i built is pretty solid, and the adjustments did a fair bit of asthetic damage).

I'm glad you asked, the mechanicus segement's moved into another stage of the project. At present it's the 1500pt budgie guard army first, then i'm moving into the realm of the mechanicus. I'm going to use necrons for my army, this is the list;
Heavy Support;
Monolith
200pts
Annihilation barge
90pts
total; 1497
it's not final, since i've got exactly 0 gaming experiance with crons, but it does give me some nice conversion chances.

Now, as proof it's a bad idea to go into your local store with money in your pocket i left with a white dwarf, black paint and two models for my Ad-mec project (which was initially booked in for december once the guard project was squared off). Here's a preview, please note the model is barely held together by a bit of glue and some blu-tac, it's just a preview so don't judge it yet but i wanted to see what people though of my choice of pilot.

I've finished the basic construction of the Melta-marines, and put together a basic tech marine character, though i admit i am struggling to find a suitable power axe head since the original is missing. I've also begun work on the pre-heresy vindicator, though i am not willing to show the full shot yet because it looks more than a little rough (i'm keeping the GS phase until i get some solid time to do both the full squad and the tank, that way i can avoid wastage)

Time now for a model i bought along with the chaos codex.
Since i'm working on sculpting the legs for all 25 of my iron warriors at the moment it'll be a while before they hit the log, but as a side project i have decided to build the Captain of the Pre-heresy Blood Angels 5th company; Captain Amit.
I've decided to keep most of the Seth model, though i've cut out most of the flesh tearer elements (keeping a few as subtle hints) and repositioned the arms. the left pad is the original right pad, and the right pad has been replaced with mk5 shoulder and a mk3 backpack.
