I couldn't disagree more.

The mechs these guys have made are very creative in my opinion and are not standard lego sets. Also, there may be a lot of mech games out there, but personally I don't care for the appearance or concept of any of them. Just the few lego mechs I have seen so far bring very positive impressions and that is why I have contributed.

Also, I don't think a lego figure game would involve much creativity on the part of the player and that is always an important aspect.

Plus many of the specialty Lego sets become 'hard to find' and/or expensive as the go OOP.

I think!

That would take a whole lot of floor space, but in the abstract, definitely! We're actually working on an extension to do big space battles within the setting. But I'm assuming more pocket-sized ships so you don't have to play over an entire park.

not that that wouldn't be awesome...

Grot6, we're doing mecha because it's what we love! Right now, that's a synthesis of Gundam and Generation Kill.

Oh, totally. We don't want to be stuck with LEGO's production schedule or anything. That's why we're going with our own designs and encouraging players to make their own. I mean, who only builds what's on the front of the box with their LEGO anyway?

I wondered how long it would be before someone started thinking about going "big"...

A little perspective on scale... the scale is about 1/83rd
1 brick = 9. 6mm
1 human = 2.33 bricks tall
1 mech = 1 SUV/Pickup-Truck = ~6 bricks tall
1 Torpedo Boat = 1 Big Rig Truck =26 bricks long = 9.8 inches
1 Corvette sized ship (LCS) = 156 bricks = 5 ft
1 Destroyer (Arleigh Burker Class) = 190 bricks = 6.25 ft

This is only if you're playing by a strict scale. No reason you have to.

Ha ha! At that scale, the vessels are more like settings than actual players.

I'll give you a sneak preview, though, cuz you guys are awesome:

Given the "scale" something like a torpedo boat or a large truck or tank or flying gunship are appropriate in size to be a player used scenario driven unit... where its either the majority or single unit a player utilizes against an opposing players large force.

I guess I missed the part where you were talking about a ship based game. That's pretty cool.

Maybe the right scale for these star destroyers?

Mythos, the ships are for a future expansion.

You could theoretically use any scale. While the game comes with a setting, it also comes with a chapter about designing a setting. If you wanted in to be all Star Destroyers and Mon Calamari capital ships, you certainly could.

Spacewolflord, those are for another project of Soren's, but there's no reason you couldn't use designs just like them.

I understand that. I was merely trying to throw ideas out there to help get other people thinking about possibilities.

I don't mean to sound absolutist on the subject of scale. Once again I was just putting it out their for the people who do care.

So Joshua, given your avatar are you working on any red shouldered scopedog's?-Or are these the closest we'll see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bricklovinfreakboy/6316097886/in/photostream

Yeah, it's called "Microscale Space" in LEGO circles. It somehow really brings out the excellence of the pieces at that scale.

Don't curse it! You can back at any level. Back for a buck and you'll get all the backer updates, even.

I take it that you guys are going to have an official website soon but any idea when it will be online?
And any more cool looking Lego War Ships?

Also I checked your Kickstarter page. Congratulations on getting $38,000+ when you were shooting for $9,000. There a part of me thinking that there might be a little bit more at launch then everyone was thinking about.

Spiraleddie, you should check out DivNull! http://divnull.com/blog/?s=Mechaton

Lester is doing the instructions for the book itself, too. I'm sure more will come into existence as more players get their hands on LDraw, too!

Spacewolflord, I imagine that's the case, but you should really check out the recent update where I posted the various fan blogs and the Mobile Frame Hangar forum: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/JoshuaACNewman/mobile-frame-zero-rapid-attack/posts/195088
