Ew that rage ruling is gross. Just play it by the written rules where units with rage must move towards the nearest enemy full speed. That is units, not models.

We don't pretend it to be all encompassing. There are already a large number of FAQ's and we need not repeat them all nor rehash them all, nor get into big arguments over things. These things needed an answer ACCORDING to the people on this forum and others. They got one.
As for the Necrons, this isn't about "benefitting" them. Just answering the questions as I would be asked to anyways during the tourney I am sure. It's not as if I play Necrons Luide

Regardless of what your personal opinion is of my rulings, I make it clear that they are not endorsed by GW. If I were to give all 22 possible positions on how anrakyr gains control of a 2-vehicle squadron, as well as argue for them, it would take a very long time to write. I tell people who are interested to discuss all of the rulings with their play group.
I don't always rule in favor of the necrons, and I make rulings that I FEEL GW would make. That means that yes, some of them will conflict with the RaW, some of them will seem superfluous and make no sense.
If you have an issue, I have repeatedly asked anyone with one of any sort to contact me via pm. I know the arguments for and against each of the questions involved; I am responsible for many of them being included in various official as well as unofficial FAQs.
This thread is not about my FAQ, and as I have said before, I'd prefer to be contacted via pm for a private discussion. Thank you.

Just a note on this, Jancoran - It's not clear from this wording whether any situation prohibiting firing also prohibits searchlight usage.
Shameless plug: I play a Necron night-fight list. Searchlights, now that people are becoming familiar with their use, have rendered pure night-fight lists "very challenging". The searchlight equipped armies can concentrate firepower while only risking a transport. If every searchlight transport, Vendetta, and scout sentinel also gets the equivalent of PotMS allowing it to light while moving flat-out, it'll be a balance problem. (Particularly as Necrons are hampered by night vision range limitations more than most codices.)
I see what you are saying. I feel like, since it's not a weapon, just like smoke launchers aren't a weapon, that their use is fairly simple and it's obvious they aren't governed by the rules for normal weapons. one has to extrapolate a bit. I don't think I would rule them as weapons unable to fire when moving flat out etc... A searchlight needs to be manned and Shaken/Stunned results certainly end in that not being the case and people trying to get back off the floor and into their gunners cockpits again. But a Searchlight, just from moving, seems like as long as there is someone to man it, it should have no problems.
So as inconvenient as that is for the Necrons, it probably won't be the reason a necron lost. But i absolutely understand the argument you're talking about a little better. Thansk for the insight. No one brought that to my attention before now.
SIDENOTE: Necrons just won the TSHFT Invitational Championship. They are strong.
A vehicle with a searchlight 'must still use the night fighting rules to pick a target'.
As the night fighting rules do not give you permission to pick a target except when shooting, exactly how is a searchlight used when the vehicle is unable to shoot?
I find it humorous that before Necrons came along I never heard of anyone trying to claim that you could use a searchlight when a vehicle couldn't shoot. Now all of sudden everyone and their mom who doesn't play Necrons thinks that was totally the way it always was (and disclaimer: I do not own Necrons).

It's easy to miss the significance of this rule. The rest of the Necron rulings, honestly, they don't matter. And I was a little perplexed at how favorable some of the rulings were, I honestly think (for instance) that Imotekh being killed should have its ruling flipped.
But a flat-out move (and smoke?) followed by a searchlight changes the game. It makes, for instance, a pitched battle setup Alpha strike possible by IG gunlines and GK mech spam on turn one - after a full-out move even a razorback can spotlight all the way to the opposite board edge on an "8" nightsight roll, nevermind Vendettas. And then they still get the 4+/6+ cover/CC saves. This ruling should at *least* be made very explicit before the tournament starts, it's ambiguous in the FAQ wording here. If you wait until the tournament starts before making it clear someone WILL rage-quit after getting demolished on turn one. (This was the rule that was causing that "fistfight in the parking lot" one poster was referring to.)

Not familiar with the fistfight and I have only seen one Rage quit, and have only done it once ever.
You'll be happy to know that I didn't hear a peep about any of this during the tourney and no one seemed overly concerned by it all, so I think we did okay, but I agree, clarity is important and I will work on that for future tournaments.
As for the StormLord, I agree that it SHOULD end the turn after his death. But I am also not capricious. If I gave in to everything I think "should" be true, I'd be in trouble. The truth is, people see through the lens of self interest 80% of the time so what you try to do is dispassionately decide if there is any "legal grounds" that support the "should". In this case I could find none. So one can surmise but then, imagine casting a spell in other systems. magic is very often independent of the caster. The casters part of the magic is just to manifest it. Once manifested, it is what it is: A massive storm. His death doesn't dry the skies, now so filled with rain clouds does it? Not unless yet another character comes along with epic power to recerse whats already done.
And these rationalizations could go on and on, back and forth forever. So like legal judges, I am trying not to set precedent on other rules by going with my "gut" on this one because as you can see, UNLESS you subscribe to the "sudden sky drying" theo0ry of physics... You might have a tough time explainign the effects sudden departure. Just saying. Food for thought on that one.

"If you turbo boost in the scout phase, then you get the first turn. Move, shoot, and maybe even assault something, do you still get your 3+ cover save during your opponents following shooting phase
Answer: No. The movement counts as it it was done on the preceding Movement phase, per the FAQ, which means at the beginning of your turn, you must do it again to regain the advantage. "
since others commented on how you ruled, I figured I'd throw in my 2c
the key wording here from turbo booster is "during the enemies next shooting phase" nothing is mentioned about a previous movement phase. then when gw put out their latest faq they clarified that if a unit turbo boosts in the scout movement it does grant the 3+ cover save, during the enemies next shooting phase.
by the rules once you turbo boost, you get the 3+ cover save during the enemies following shooting phase.
you can search back through the forum and find where I asked that question originally, it didn't even fill up a whole page before everyone agreed its the way it is written.

The key wordind is in the FAQ. The movement counts as it it was done on the preceding Movement phase. Your turn one is your NEXT movement phase, obviously. I don't think that's a very hard thing to get.
So on YOUR turn 1, you must move flat out to affect the enemies next shooting phase.
This is so intuitively obvious that for there to be a war on it is pointless to me. If there was, I missed all the fun...gladly... And I think I will miss it again here too, because I'll admit to being completely incredulous that anyone would even go there on this issue. If they did to me, It would be a roll off. Fo sho.

You're getting confused between vehicles moving Flat Out (preceding movement phase) and bikes/jet bikes turbo-boosting (following enemy shooting phase). The question you claimed to be answering was about Turbo-boosting, and while I agree that they shouldn't get the save if they turboboost during a scout move and then get first turn they absolutely do as the rules are written. The preceding movement phase is irrelevant as far as bikes/jetbikes turbo-boosting is concerned.

Your next movement phase doesn't matter for that rule.
Only your enemies next shooting phase.
After the scout phase, when is the enemies next shooting phase?

You probably know what a distinction that makes no difference is.
I put this in that category, Rigeld2.
My goal in life is to have stress free games. Since I know that will fail, my next goal is to have LESS stressful games. One of the ways I can do that is to stop finding loopholes all the time and just try to do it the way that requires the least amount of variables for it do be true. Some recognize that philosophical position as Occams Razer.
The other thing I can do to reduce stress is just roll off. 'Cause honestly, if we dont, it'll be a short game, or an unpleasant one. We all lose then.

You really should simply have a simple answer for every question raised. Some of your explanations are wrong, or at least give some avenue for dispute with the rules.
If I say "we will play rule X as Y for reasons Z," then if someone shows your reasons to be wrong, then the ruling is called into question. This happens with the official FAQs. GW gives yes/no answers to questions, but then adds explanations that don't make any sense, may be inconsistent with other rules, or sometimes just plain wrong.
