I'm confused , even in his peculiar state I thought he still protected mankind using the warp. Protecting his subjects minds as well as he can. And the golden throne is what keeps him alive no? Even though it is fighting a losing battle, sooner or later the emperor will truly perish.

An asteroid will smash into the earth killing all life too, but we don't really want to worry about that either.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

In one book (Dark Tide or something, can't remember the title) it mentions Fabius Bile is trying to gather the geneseed of all the primarchs in order to create a clone of the Emperor. He would of course make an evil clone, but even the possibility opens interesting paths for the future of mankind.

I mean in the moment he dies to be reborn as the Star Child all the ships that are at that moment in the warp (millions) and all their crew are lost, planets will go dark for centuries with their entire populations. Hell the Imperium is so large even after he is reborn there will be worlds that won't know of it for generations. And if he looses his uhm... control i guess of keeping the souls of the fateful from the hands of deamons and whatnot all the people that die in that very moment can kiss their pleasant afterlife goodbye. Hes position is such that he is stuck in a manner of speaking.
Also him being in a state of a living death and being humanity's only hope of unity - grimdark. And that's how GW likes it.
The Emperor being in the throne is not necessary for the Astronomicon. It functioned just fine while he was out kicking ass in the Crusade.
