Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

I feel like this is a prime example why if I ever have a child, and try to get them into the hobby, I will play with them at home until they are mature enough to actually HANDLE (both tactically and emotionally) playing against strangers, of various calibers of ability.
I remember my father used to school me when we played war games when I was around that age, and I took issue with it, however I always kept coming back for more.

But yeah, I would definitely head this one off at the pass, and tell the manager before Dad finds some way to swing his opinion to his side.

I have some conficting opinions on this based on personal experience.

First off I coach kids in sport fencing. I think it is important to let them know up front that you can't win all the time. Sometimes you will find yourself matched up in what seems like a hopeless encounter. Even these situations are learning experiences and it is simply important to do the best you can.

However, some kids have serious socialization issues and need to be handled with extreme care. I know of a third grader that would get extremely upset when she wasn't winning games in the classroom like bingo. 3-4 rounds and she hadn't won yet would send her to tears. Any time she feels she might be left out of a reward or participation would do the same.

In the end, it is the coach/parent/mentor's responisibility to prepare the child for the given situations in advance and to use these experiences as a chance of growth.
