Personally, with the options of some of the blockier FW stuff and the recent marine releases, I'll go with the FW ones any day of the week... they're not always my taste, but the over all quality is solid.

I hate the old rogue trader stuff, but the way fw have brought the old concepts into line with current kits is astounding, and i love them for it.

My only complaint is that they painted it in Red Scorpion livery instead of a Minotaurs pattern...

I really love how the tracks are fully exposed. The closer you are to danger, the farther from harm, eh? Makes the Leman Russ look tame and sensible in comparison.

I think it's subjective, and depends on what you personally class as "value for money", and where you live (eg. Australian prices versus UK).

For only AU$37 more than a regular LR, and knowing how much work and time I would put into this project... for me, personally, it would be great value for money.

It is 'wrong', in a sense, when it drags a thread off topic.

Perhaps it would be best if you started up a separate thread, possibly in 40K General Discussions, about Pre-Heresy products, and what people's opinions are on them?

FW is competitive with GW in certain parts of the world.

Prices given are rough conversions from $NZ
GW plastic Assault squad - £32
GW finecast Vanguard vets - £42.5
FW mkIV assault squad - £32 + £4.8(15% p&p)

Postage costs aside, the FW set is the same price as the plastic GW one.

FW predator kits are similarly priced or cheaper than GW plastic ones.

I agree though that prices like £25 for two figures is steep, and £95 for a model only slightly larger than a raider is too. Those prices I think reflect the popularity of retro marines.
