Rampaging Reaver Titan Princeps

Just spotted and yours for the princely sum of £95:

An armoured transport of truly massive proportions, the Spartan is a heavy assault tank previously all but unknown outside of the revered Space Marine Chapters and the secretive Adeptus Mechanicus. The Spartan is a huge armoured conveyer whose purpose is to carry a large body of troops into the very heart of an enemy’s battle lines, weathering weapons fire that would be the death of any lesser vehicle.

Its design bears clear connections with that of the mighty Land Raider, and its genius is such that the greater proportion of its interior space is given over to a transport capacity greater than any other Imperial vehicle save the super-heavy Gorgons – being capable of carrying twenty-five power armoured Space Marines into battle. It is, however, considerably faster on the battlefield thanks to potent reactor-driven motive drives, and it posts an equally potent armament in the form of sponson-mounted quad lascannon batteries and secondary heavy bolters.

The Spartan Assault Tank, model designed by Phil Stutcinskas, is an enormous multi-part resin kit that features a detailed interior. Experimental rules to allow this armoured behemoth to be fielded in games of Warhammer 40,000 will be available to download soon. The Spartan itself can be pre-ordered for despatch from Friday 29th June.

Finally away to transport a large blob of Blood claws with a wolf priest and logan grimnar across the battlefield. (If wolves can take it)

Looks really really interesting shame about the price :(

Really nice model that for me, the idea of spending nearly a hundred quid on one tank breaks me though.

So it's a tank that can take an entire Black Templars blob squad with a Chaplain with Servitors and STILL have enough space to get the Emperor's Champion in there?!

It's certainly a bit of a beef-up of the original Spartan

I like it. But after building the Proteus, would be a little reluctant to buy it.

been waiting for this for so long, but there's no way I'm dropping £100 on it - I'll just convert one.

I love when they go and update old designs though - can't wait to see one of these full of Death Guard

Love it! Forgeworld has been on a roll recently. Sadly, Warhammer Forge has not.

Been waiting for this. Looks nice next to an Armored Proteus as well, yet approaches the size of the Baneblade. Perfect Birthday idea.

Bad experience with the Proteus? What happened? I was thinking of getting a Spartan and Proteus, so any forewarning would be appreciated...

Oh, and for us Aussies, it's still cheaper than a plastic Baneblade...

It's HUGE. That's awesome. I think it's great.

And it's only AUD$37 more than buying a Land Raider here in Oz, so it doesn't look all that expensive from our perspective.

Friend of mine just built a Proteus. He said that the tracks were a nightmare. What was your experience?

I had one track segment give me issues on an armored proteus, and the whole assembly is a tad loose on the drive wheels, but overall I did not find it to be that bad a build. No worse than the plastic baneblade or lod Guard tanks though, in my opinion. Superglue and rubberbands.

I had trouble getting the tracks to fit perfectly, but it was easy enough to arrange it so that the 'bad' join was hidden at the back underneath. As I have no plans to flip the model upsidedown this is fine by me.

However I did have more of a problem cleaning the flash off all the fiddly lascannon components enough so that it would still rotate when assembled. Things like that are much better done in plastic than resin. In hindsight I should have bought the armoured variant instead.

Mine was the armoured Proteus. The tracks were way too loose on the drive wheels. I wound up cutting out a link on the underside and re-bending the segments to make them fit.

It also had all of the flat panels noticably concave, and the engine block is about 5mm narrower than the other body pieces, leaving a big gap on either side at the rear of the tank. One of the front drive wheels also wasn't fully cast.

Forgeworld send me a replacement... the panels are better, but still not perfect. Haven't had the energy to try putting it together yet.

It does look nice, and delivering 12 terminators would be fun, but I don't imagine I'll be spending £95 on a single tank any time soon - particularly given the wasted time and aggravation inflicted by previous Forge World tank kits.

I really like it except for the Quad-lascannons. Those are like something out of the OP end of the old VDR rules.

I didn't realize that until this comment. I didn't realize it was a new vehicle because it looks so much like a Land Raider.

TBH I sort of like this one despite the fact I really don't like any of the throwback styled vehicles they've been releasing so far - I like that the hull extends past the front tacks, and is shaped and angled in such a way that painting a shark mouth on each side would look good.

It's not like each of them can shoot at a different target or anything, and if you're letting loose with two batteries of quad lascannons you're probably not moving forward and utilizing the transport capacity, which is the real draw.

While I think this is a great looking vehicle, do Space Marines need yet another good vehicle for delivering assault troops.? Perhaps I'm assuming too much thinking it has an assault ramp. Before anybody says anything yes I realize its called Imperial Armor for a reason, but I think that other armies coudl use a little love too besides Imperial Guard and Space Marines. Perhaps a little more Tau or Sisters of Battle would be nice. At this point I think FW alone has produced more super heavy choices for IG than the Sisters have units in their current codex. (perhaps a slight exaggeration).

Space Marines sell, thats why!

Spartan looks pretty neat. Cool to see non raider type assault vehicles for once so its armaments arent as restrictive
