Of course not. The problem is that even without nukes they would F up South Korea bigtime with conventional artillery, and we and SK have no interest in a ground war with NK. It would be absurdly awful.

To nukes being the central issue. They complicate things, of course, but aren't the main problem with doing something about NK.

Ah, well yes, that's a lot more accurate than what I said. Nukes heat things up, especially with the location in which NK is, but the real problem is geopolitical. There really wouldn't be any thought given to this sad part of the world if it wasn't for the fact that China entertains a certain relation with it...

Although they are important, as the US has a record of never being involved in a direct military action against a country with a nuclear capability.
As much as I despise the idea of any more of those weapons being created at all, and being in the hands of lunatics, for both Iran and N Korea I completely understand from their perspective, why they would want a nuclear capability.

Evidently, according to their propaganda, our imperialist 4 prop bombers might have a problem against their Yak 5s. if only we had continued to develop our technology, then think of the oppression we could have done to NK...

Um NO. Only time NK can actually pull off an invasion is down the Western Corrigdor in Jan and Feb when the rice paddies are frozen hard enough to support armor. It is not flat terrain there but a huge amount of ridges and valleys with just one main highway runnnigng down from the DMZ to Seoul. Each choke point along a road has a block of cement thats rigged to blow to block passage down the road Basically an entire valley is a kill zone 2ID is an overstrength division setting right in there. Biggest camp there is Camp Casey with a good chunk of armor units there thats situated on reverse slope to avoid any artillery fire from impacting in mortar pools. Also the range alone for the NK artillery does not extend all the way to Seoul. Artillery works both ways except US/ SK has the advantage of already preposition artillery units through out the corrigdor. Also US artillery units using RAP rounds are already geared to be fired from right in therir mortar pool...example be Camp Stanley The other drawback is the manpower reserves SK can draw on since its mandatory for males to serve for three yrs in SK armed forces. Also the fact that CHina now has a situation on their hands that NK actually lost their minds and attacked first. It'll be different if SK attacked NK that China can actually support their "allies" with no hestitation. Since US nuclear weapons are based at Japan then they really don't have to worry about the US nuking NK......but not nuclear artillery shells which can take out entire grids like a MLRS. In case your all wondering...3 PCS there and info on the internet but mainly...first hand experience and view

He's not talking about invasion actually. NK has something on the order of 6,000 artillery tubes in striking distance of Seoul, which has a massive portion of SK's population. If you figure 25 lbers (very conservative) and five shots a minute thats 375 tons of high explosive a minute into Seoul. Thats assuming its not gas of course, and NK doesn't send thousands of fanatics through the tunnels under the DMZ.

Assorted tubes are pointed down range south. 155mm actually stand a chance of hitting Seoul. Problem with that is counter battery fire. Big guns are eliminated first. NK does not have enough 155mm bore tubes to feed freely into the artillery grind.

OK that's the first time I've heard that, I'm guessing your stationed there Jihadin? I was told by an American (ex-military) while I was there that the 20,000 or so US soldiers based there are only really a trip wire if the North ever did seriously try to invade, and wouldn't be expected to hold for long. Is that not the case?
I think a military action would be bat-poo insane by both sides, and hopefully would not be allowed to happen (especially now with China starting to cast a bigger shadow over asia) but it would be interesting to know these things regardless.

Well, that, and Japan and South Korea are significant economic powers. You're talking about, respectively, the 3rd and 15th largest economies in the world. A hot war on the peninsula would have serious financial ramifications for most governments on the planet, but especially the US.
