One area that I think is important to distinguish is actually memorabilia vs a memorial.
I am perfectly fine with people having a memorial and a ceremony to remember. It is important for people that were affected by it and to remember the past and apply it to our future.
Memorabilia that profits of a tragedy just ticks me off. As it gets closer we will see the return of "special commemorative coins (limited edition), plates, t-shirts, etc...". There are a few that are worthwhile (as a former firefighter I usually support charities or fundraisers that support the families of firefighters affected by it), but for the most part it is just people profiteering of the attacks IMO.
