Subject: 9/11 memorabilia, or how we americans need to move on

I'm about to commit blasphemy. But we Americans need to stop it with the 9/11. it has been 11 years, time to move on. First, I know many americans act as if we are the only ones to be the victims of a terrorist attack. and then there is stuff like this....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBMwyWe_mTI
We do not have massive anniversaries for the Oklahoma City Bombing, Despite that being a terrorist attack.
Nor do we for the Beltway Sniper attacks which lead to massive fear.
The only reason 9/11 sticks on our mind so much is because it was a foreign domestic attack. It was the first time americans realised "Hey, other people dont like us"
We need to stop acting like victims. And people who where no where NEAR the towers or have had family/ directly affected especially need to stop acting like victims.
Its time to move on.

It took a while for us Brits to move on from the IRA terror bombings in the 70's and 80's.... People should never forget what happened, I was as shocked as anyone else watching 9/11. But yes, maybe it's time America stopped acting like a victim and actually tried to make things better, after all, in 30 years time 9/11 will be a footnote in history, only remembered on its anniversary...

Living in Oklahoma City I can tell you that the people here have not forgotten about the bombing and we still have a very nice ceremony for it every year. But I think everybody does a good job at making it a way to remember the victims without it being a giant sob-fest or a crutch. Very much a "We will always remember, and we will always go on" affair, which I think is a good combination. The symbol of the memorial is the survivor tree, which was heavily damaged by the blast but has since recovered and is even blooming again. Saplings of the tree were given to every city that lost somebody in the bombing as a symbol of healing and growing from the attack. I think that is a great example of the way the memorial is focusing on life and growth instead of just death. The memorial ceremony is a big deal and would probably be more of a national event if 9/11 has not happened. It was the biggest terrorist attack on american soil until then, and it is still the biggest domestic terrorist attack. I would imagine that eventually the 9/11 ceremony will become more of a NYC thing.

Well first i would like people who where no where near the towers or the pentagan or where not directly affected by it stop acting like a victims. Like people in california saying "They feel changed by it, it affected me deeply"
And i dont want a coin celebrating Binladens death.

Who is playing a victim? "Having your life changed by it" or "Being affected deeply" doesn't mean they are playing victim. It means they have evaluated their lives, taken stock about what is important, have become more patriotic, or any number of things.

Look guys, all of you who says America loves to be the victim...
Stop it, we don't.
It is only this new touchy feely wave that is hitting the country. America likes to be tough and hardworking, but this new thing where even last place gets a prize is messing things up.
But remember, that is only some people.
