After demoing it at GenCon, I'll also be getting it.

They said to expect it in early 2013.

That's a lot of tokens and cards though, FFG at its best!

Kronk,

Does it play well?

Is there significant replay value?

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

Hard to answer, JB. I only played for 15 minutes, which is less than 1/16th of any talisman game that I've ever played.

It was similar enough to Talisman to pick up the game play pretty fast.

It's got enough 40k related encounters to make it interesting.

Like Talisman, they'll likely put out expansions, which would likely include more characters and rules and such. Using some/none of the expansions for Talisman certainly gives it great replay value.

Have you played the normal Talisman? Do you feel it has significant replay value?

1) The board has surprisingly few skulls on it.
2) I love that tablecloth. Now that's something I'd buy!
3) John Goodenough? I love that name!

After playing it for a good 45 minutes, I have to say its going to be a great game. If you love Talisman, you'll love this. Its very similar and yet they have tweaked alot of things and streamlined the game. One such thing is when you land on another player and duel them, you can only take influence (money) or a life. You can;t mug them for their items, therefor the game doesn't devolve into a "Get Jim's runesword!".

Also, the missions add a whole new level to it. Having your own personal goals to achieve so you can get relics is pretty cool. And relics....they are like talismans that actually do something and there's like 30 different ones.

I am so, so stoked about this. Much like a movie I know I'm going to see and avoid trailers for; I'm not looking to deeply into the mechanics or what's in the box. I trust FFG pretty implicitly.

From the half hour I played, you will not be disappointed.

This actually looks interesting. I've never played Talisman, and generally have little experience with boardgames of this nature. I did play Arkham Horror, though, I suppose it's somewhat similar to that?

It's not like Arkham horror at all, I'm afraid. Arkham horror is a cooperative game. This one is competitive. The game mechanics are very different, too.

Ecclesiarchy symbol.

That's indeed an Inquisition symbol around her neck.

Wow. Talisman felt over-long, luck-driven, skill-light, and boring, 30-odd years ago. I can't quite believe that "based on the Talisman game system" is still a selling point, given the preference for elegant, skill-heavy game design, these days.

The sink.

I always felt that Talisman needed a built in time limit. I like the game, but I've played games where we sat for 4 hours and still had no clear winner.

Talisman falls apart if you have more than four players. I hate to admit it, but overall talisman is very repetitive and luck driven. Ive had fun with it mostly just because my group does well with it and we add a lot of humor.

I'd still suggest giving Relic a try. It's not straight Talisman; it has been tweaked a bit.

I've always loved Talisman - even though it's a tad repetitive I'll admit. Relic is just too cool for words. Fantasy Flight are great!

Very excited...
