More people get killed and injured by drunk drivers than by guns. I say we use the same sentencing guidelines for murders commited with a gun on people driving drunk who kill others in wrecks.

The dude was literally a couple feet away from about six different oblivious bystanders when the shooting started. If initial reports are to be believed, all the injuries occurred not due to people getting directly shot by the cops, but getting hit with debris from the bullets shattering on pavement and the flower pot directly behind the suspect.
The video's up, guys. I posted it. Watch it. It's not as "rargh rampaging NYPD!!!11oneoneeleventy!" as everyone's making it out to be.
All nine bystanders caught in the crossfire of a shooting outside New York City's iconic Empire State Building were wounded by two police officers who had never fired their weapons on duty, authorities confirmed Saturday.
Mention their training. Regardless if standers-by are nearby they are trained to eliminate the threat. Their training needs a freaking overhaul. Emphasis on center mass and fire discipline.

I agree, let's jump to conclusions. For all we know, it could've been overpenetration if NYPD doesn't use JHPs.
Edit: Or, hell, even if they do. I've seen them fail to expand before.

Regardless, it doesn't matter. Everyone on the internet can claim all day long they'd have dropped the guy with one shot while repaving the roads and balancing their checkbooks, all that matters is if the officers responded correctly.
They discharged 16 shots, hit the subject 10 times, missed six. If they never fired their weapons before in a situation, that's not too bad. Not great, but a start. I do think they fired far more rounds then they needed to. Shooting 7 and 9 rounds respectively suggests the officers panicked.
Do the police instructors try to break the trainee's concentration while instructing on the range? My own weapon instructor liked to discharge blanks at random over the trainee's heads while they were taking aim to try and throw them off.

Nine people have been hit for a "payday". Which to say I do believe they're going to retire in two years courtesy of NYC.

You say that like as if you're walking down the street minding your own, and a police officer shoots you by accident because their department historically has a record of lousy aim and overshooting, they have absolutely no liability. You should just suck it up, pay out your medical and rehab costs out of your own insurance, and your own decreased quality of life (if applicable) and paint and suffering simply have no value.
I disagree with you. I think the department is responsible for where every one of those rounds went. If the department doesn't like settling multi-million dollar lawsuits, they should train their officers better, even if it costs time and money.

Actually, he and I both said that earlier. We were just being viciously commenting that regardless of if they actually suffered any real injury, they were going to get paid.
