I'd like to get Stubborn back on Sisters Superior, maybe as a 5 point upgrade.

The Avenger is fine as our Flyer. I love it. ^^

Some kind of assault transport for Repentia and Battle Conclaves would be nice.

For Exorcists, maybe something like this (keeping everything else the same);

Incendiary Rockets: For 5 points, the Exorcist may also fire Incendiary Rockets in addition to its usual profile. Incendiary Rockets have the following profile;

Range 48" S4 AP4 Heavy d3 Blast, Ignores Cover

Immolators: For Alicia's sake give us back our Fire Point! Immolators aren't Razorbacks, we put our turret at the front of the tank for a reason! The return of move 12" and Flame would be nice too, but not 100% necessary.

I don't think any of the current squads really need any fixes other than to be a point or two cheaper, other than the Sororitas Command Squad, our generic HQs and Celestians.

Celestians: I'd like them to gain Chainswords as standard and get Hatred back. I'd also like them to be able to take Power Weapons or Eviscerators as special weapons, much like Chaos Chosen.

New units: I have a slew of them.

These were put together with the idea of creating a group of units to take the roles of different FoC slots, much the same way that the Grey Knights codex gained a slew of new types of Grey Knight (Purifier, Purgator, Paladin...), although Heavy Support proved difficult to fill. I therefore offer: Two Elites, one Troops, and two Fast Attack choices for Codex: Sisters of Battle. I will admit, however, that Ramielim exist solely to provide a reason to keep all those Storm Bolter armed Sisters from the old squad box!

Oh, and another Hospitaller profile, based off James Swallow's Hammer and Anvil.

Wargear
San Leor Blade: The traditional weapon of the original Daughters of the Emperor, every Sister owns a San Leor blade... but only those who have special talent, or have foresworn the trappings of the modern Sisterhood still wield them in battle. A San Leor blade is a Master-Crafted Close Combat Weapon that grants the wielder +1 Strength if they do not handle another weapon.

Longbow: An ancient weapon, and in the hands of a properly trained Daughter of the Emperor, still lethal. A Longbow is a two-handed ranged weapon with the following profile:
Rng: 30" S: 3 AP: 6 Rapid Fire
Some Longbows may be loaded with 'Condemnor' power-stakes, changing their profile accordingly:
Rng: 30" S: 5 AP: 6 Rapid Fire, Psi-shock

Adjudicator Boltgun: A field-applicable modification to the standard bolter, the addition of an M.40 Targetting System and Stalker shells turns this traditional side-arm into an effective, if cumbersome, sniper rifle. An Adjudicator Boltgun is a two-handed ranged weapon with the following profile:

Rng 30" S4 AP5 Heavy 1, Sniper

Chainstaves: Double-ended chainsaws with adamantium teeth, a Chainstave counts as two Rending Close Combat Weapons that grant the bearer a +1 bonus to their Strength score. If the weapon Rends, roll 1d6 instead of 1d3 additional armour penetration.

Valetudinarian Gauntlet: A Valetudinarian Gauntlet is a Rending Close Combat Weapon.

Hymnal of Trust: This honoured tome calls upon the eternal guardian spirit of the Emperor. A unit carrying the Hymnal of Trust improves its Shield of Faith save to 4+.

Hymnal of Martyrdom: The Hymnal of Martyrdom contains chants and battle-prayers that steel the wielder against Chaos. A unit that includes a model carrying the Hymnal of Martyrdom may ignore any ability that requires a Psychic Test to activate on a roll of 5+.

Aspiriate Cloak: These adamantine mantles are created after the design of the honoured relic of St Aspira, who stood before a thousand Traitor Guard and marched into the valley of death to decapitate their Commander. The Aspiriate Cloak improves the armour save of the wearer by 1.

Imperial Plate: This heavy, archaic chainmail-and-plate composite armour grants the wearer a 5+ save.

Narthecium: A model carrying a Narthecium grants her unit Feel no Pain.

Inferno Grenades: These firebombs are used to saturate the area before a unit with flames to prevent them being easily assaulted. They count as Defensive Grenades.

The Lelahelim stand apart from those Sisters Non-Militant of the Orders Hospitaller from where they hail. Though they rise from the ranks of the Hospitallers, they have found a second calling in the Emperor's sight. They are his angels of mercy, bringing death to those who desire it and giving life to those who deserve it.

The Pahalim are the guardians of the Sororitas. Nicknamed 'Ophelians' because it is so rare to see them away from their home on Ophelia VII, they stand guard with storm shield and bolter against the darkness. Pahalim are born, not trained, and only those who show unwavering fortitude and resilience are inducted into their number. They are marked out by their Aspiriate cloaks and blazing storm shields, and it is said that when battle is upon them their armour blazes with the power of their belief, turning aside weapons that would slay an Astartes outright.

Within the Orders of the Adepta Sororitas there are those who believe that the only way to expunge the stain upon their souls incurred by Vandire is to return to their origins on San Leor in their entirety. These are the Mehabelim, who have forsworn the usage of Imperial weapons and doctrine. They fight as the Daughters of the Emperor once fought, with blade and bow, clad in simple mail. Their faith is all the purer for their sacrifice.

Sacrificial Purity: A life of hardship and self-denial in Sisterhood spurs the faithful to everlasting glory. This Act of Faith is used in the Assault phase. Every model in the unit gains +1 to their Strength score for every casualty the unit has suffered (To a maximum of S10). If the unit has suffered ten or more casualties, their attacks also count as Power Weapons.

While not as individually powerful as an Astartes Scout, the initiates of the Adepta Sororitas are invariably better equipped. Because they do not have to wait for a Black Carapace implant to mature, Sisterhood initiates can be equipped with power armour from the beginning of their careers. There are records of Sisters as young as fourteen serving on the battlefield, although in general the Sororitas prefer to protect their initiates until they are ready for frontline duty. In times of great need, however, the Initiates are formed into Afrielim squads, armed with Adjudicator pattern bolters and led into battle by veteran Sisters Militant.

Canoness Minoris Severine of the Order of the Ebon Chalice was the first to equip Sisters Militant with the Eviscerators of fallen Repentia during the desperate Battle of Frater Signum. The Orkish dreadnoughts were proving resilient to the Sisters' bolters and meltagun, leading to the loss of many brave Sororitas to their assorted blades and crude weapons. The weapons of the Israfim have since been refined, but the tactics of engaging high-value enemy targets at knife range have not.

I was thinking that the Sisters should have a lot of tactical options, too. They're zealots, but they are also THE military branch of the Ecclesiarch. You'd guess that means they're at least competent on the battlefield.

I was thinking something along the lines of:

"TACTICAL WITHDRAWAL: While in overwatch, a Sororitas unit (specific to Sisters of Battle, not priests, zealots, etc) may opt to move 1d6" rather than shoot."

This way, Sisters could perhaps keep enemies at that devastating short- to mid-range while not getting into melee (which they aren't so good at). Also adds a flavorful way of showing the Sisters' adeptness at tactics.

Torrent for the Immolator, though the idea of every Heavy Flamer getting Torrent is a very cool visual. Wrong, but cool.

Initiates as Scouts, I like the idea of them keeping Power Armor on them as well, no black carapace.

Celestians w/upgrades. Give them a CCW, give them a Bike so they don't conflict with Seraphim, give them combi-weapon w/Sororitas style special ammo.

Repentia with Necron like "we'll be back", make the Mistress really use that whip!

Pariah like HQ choice, not a psyker, just creates a 24" null zone.

Iron Will? Give their Deny the Witch rebound abilities on the offending psyker, causing perils of the warp?

A ton of armies and a terrain habit...

The non-carapace, keep-them-in-power armor is good. Goes along with my idea that you should be able to make the army with existing GW models (hopefully FW will be rolling out Sisters of Silence in a year or so for the HH on Prospero). Maybe instead of scouts, make them special forces/weapons infiltrators?

I was thinking, Mistress-wise, that as long as she lives, they get certain buffs. Hadn't thought of "It will not die," but that would be pretty effing scary.

I really like the idea of Torrent on flamers (or heavy flamers, at least), but more as an option for an upgraded trooper (Master of the Flame or some such) for +10 points or so.

I've been going back and forth with the Celestians. I think a bike might be out of character, but maybe a cheapo-rhino? Going back to the existing model range...

    ^This.

Also I liked the old Acts of Faith better; go back to a pool of Acts available to all units in the army instead of sticking each unit with only one, the versatility that permitted was one of the great things about the old Witch Hunters book.

I like the idea of "build your own saint." It would seem that while they're rare, inspirational types are not unique in the Sororitas. Gaunt's Ghosts by Abnett are centered around one, and she isn't St. Celestine.

From earlier comments and my own ideas:

Tactical Withdrawal: In lieu of shooting, any Sororitas unit may choose to pull back 1d6 inches in an overwatch phase. Is rolled before

Cleanse it with Fire: Sororitas units are especially adept with the cleansing power of flame. Any Sister armed with a Heavy Flamer unit can be upgraded to a Flame Specialist and gain the “Torrent” special rule for +10 points.

Stubborn: Sororitas units have the Stubborn universal rule.

Adamantium Will: Sororitas units gain a +1 on Deny the Witch rolls.

Focused Fire: Sororitas units gain a +1 to BS when firing on a unit that another Sororitas unit has fired on in that shooting sequence. Not cumulative.

Blessed Fire: Flamers used by the Sororitas are blessed and are treated as holy weapons: Invulnerable Saves are treated as normal saves against these weapons.

    Thoughts?

Anyone good at point balancing? I can do fluff stuff, and come up with interesting rules, but I suck at coming up with point costs that aren't over- or under-costed.

Did you not know there are other living saints in 40k fluff? Macharius was declared a living saint among others

I like the idea of bring the bow into 40K but really a crossbow is more thier 'style' but give them exploding tips, so a unit can fire it like this:

    Crossbow with Frag Tip

    Range: 36" S 3 AP 6 Blast

With options for Krak and/or melta tips as well.

I'd rather see the Sisters of Battle be made more unique. Right now they just feel like an underpowered, unimaginative version of a combination of Space Marines and Grey Knights. Some suggestions:

    1) Give them unique weapons. None of this "Space Marines Lite" stuff anymore. In other words instead of giving them a Multi-melta, give them something new akin to a multi-melta.

    2) Less randomization in their army-wide special rules. Do something cool and unique with Acts of Faith.

    3) More emphasis on the lore. They're the personal armed forces of the Ecclesiarchy, they should feel like it and not just "Space Marines Lite".

    1. There is the problem that pretty much all Imperial armies share weapons; the heavy and special weapons are fairly constant between the Imperial forces, aside from what used to be minor variations used by the Grey Knights that Matt Ward restatted into something completely different. Traditionally the Sisters of Battle have been the close-range fire army focused on the special weapons versus the Guard's focus on heavy weapons and the Space Marine's versatility.

    2. True, but the details need to be worked out.

    3. I say bring back the pre-Ward fluff tying them to the Ordo Hereticus and put Inquisition forces in the list.

Yeah: faith powers don't really work. They're too complex, they require you to keep a running tally, etc. They should be something that you roll a LD check against and then it works or doesn't. Period. No tallies, no "half your squad has to be dead," etc etc.

I agree that they need unique weapons, but again, I'm trying to make this army list compatible with the existing models. There isn't a Sister model with a crossbow (and a 36" range is too far, I'd think - more like 12"?).

For the Space Marine Lite bit, that's all spelled out in the fluff, but as for the rules, their stats are basically that. It's going to be in the special rules (giving them Torrent on heavy flamers, holy prometheum, abilities to withdraw and focus fire) will be what makes them different.

Changing up the weapons really just changes the appearance.

Game-wise, the Sisters should be the best Close Combat army. Not melee, not medium range: 6"-12".

I may have answered most of these questions with this codex I posted a little while ago.

Generations have suffered with the same devotion that we can offer but once. Still, our Faith leads us through these dark times like a beacon. It will guide us to triumph over these abominations. Option for exorcist each time it shoots: to shoot normally as they have OR shoot 3D6 missiles at BS1. This would represent the old sacred machines simply spraying (and praying, haha) a ton of missiles. After all, it has several dozen organ pipes / barrels. This would help to shoot down flyers and is very fluffy.

    FAITH AND GENERAL RULES

So here's my stab at Faith for the Sisters. Again, the goal is to keep it really simple, so no tables, no tally, no buffs due to people dying. It either works or it doesn't.

FAITH DOESN'T WAIVER: Faith checks are made against a Unit's UNMODIFIED LD.

SUFFER NOT THE __________ TO LIVE: Sisters of Battle treat any ally with active abhumans, psykers, and/or xenos (including Jakaero) in their active (current, on-table) force as Desparate Allies, regardless of the Allies Matrix.

ZEALOTS: Sisters of Battle units always make morale and LD checks against their unmodified LD.

    ACTS OF FAITH
Unless stated otherwise, Acts of Faith are performed a the start of their turn, prior to their movement phase, and remain active to the start of their next movement phase.

    CANONESS:
The Canoness gains two Acts of Faith a turn.
  • May the Emperor Sustain you: Prior to the Canoness or Targeted Unit moving, the Canoness can bestow FNP on a Unit within 6" until their next movement phase (in the following round - need to work on the wording: it's active for their own round, and then their opponent's, otherwise it would be kind of worthless). The Canoness can also use this power on herself.

  • Armor of Contempt: Prior to the Canoness or the Targeted Unit moving, the Canoness can improve a Unit with 6" a +1 bonus to their armor score (to a maximum of 2+) until their next movement phase. The Canoness can also use this power on herself.

  • Shield of Faith: Prior to the Canoness or the Targeted Unit moving, the Canoness can make a Unit's armor save within 6" Invulnerable. The Canoness can also use this power on herself. This remains in effect until their next movement phase.

  • The Passion: The Canoness may bestow +1 Initiative and Preferred Enemy on a unit within 6", including herself. This remains in effect until their next movement phase.

  • CELESTIANS:
Celestians may perform two Acts of Faith a turn.
  • Only in Death: The Celestians gain a 6+ Invulnerable save until the start of their next movement phase.

  • Withering Fire: The Celestians inflict one extra wound on any target they wound in the same round. This wound is resisted as normal. This Act of Faith may be perform prior to the Shooting or Assault phase and is active for that phase only.

  • Hand of the Emperor: The gains +1 Strength and Fearless until their next Movement phase.

  • SISTERS REPENTIA:
A Mistress of Repentance may perform a single Act of Faith a round.
  • Only in Death: The Sisters Repentia gain a 6+ Invulnerable save until the start of their next movement phase.

  • Spirit of the Martyr: If a Sisters Repentia model takes an unsaved wound in the Assault Phase, they are not removed until the end of that phase.

  • I also really like the idea of the squad gaining benefits and buffs while the Mistress is alive, but maybe going out of control when she dies. Gaining something like It Will Not Die while she's around, but losing all of them and maybe being forced to attack the nearest enemy.

    BATTLE SISTERS
A Sister Superior may perform a single Act of Faith a round. Note if the Superior dies, that unit may not perform Acts of Faith.
  • Only in Death: The Battle Sisters gain a 6+ Invulnerable save until the start of their next movement phase.

  • Light of the Emperor: During any single phase in a round, the unit automatically regroups and rerolls any To-Hit rolls of 1.

  • DOMINION SQUAD
A Dominion Superior may perform a single Act of Faith a round. Note if the Superior dies, that unit may not perform Acts of Faith.
  • Only in Death: The Dominion Squad gain a 6+ Invulnerable save until the start of their next movement phase.

  • Endless Crusade: The Dominion Squad gain Relentless and Move through Cover until their next movement phase.

  • Holy Fusilade: The Dominion Squad's weapons count as Twin-Linked for the round.

  • SERAPHIM SQUAD
A Seraphim Superior may perform two Acts of Faith a round. Note if the Superior dies, the unit will only be able to perform a single Act of Faith.
  • Only in Death: The Seraphim gain a 6+ Invulnerable save until the start of their next movement phase.

  • The Emperor's Deliverance: The Seraphim may reroll any failed To-Wound rolls until the start of their next movement phase.

  • The Emperor's Guidance: The Seraphim may reroll any failed To-Hit rolls until the start of their next movement phase.

  • RETRIBUTOR SQUAD
A Retributor Superior may perform a single Act of Faith a round. Note if the Superior dies, that unit may not perform Acts of Faith.
  • Only in Death: The Retributor Squad gain a 6+ Invulnerable save until the start of their next movement phase.

  • Divine Guidance: The Retributor Squads shooting counts as Rending until the end of the Turn.

  • Withering Fire: The Retributor Squad is Relentless until their next movement phase.
