Nah, I'd totally go nurgle.
I'd be perfectly happy to have my daemon prince safely tank a unit all game and keep spitting out nurgle hexes and augments.

Went with flying and shwoop got a purple sun off... you can guess the big line i made with 10 on the artiliery dice those lizardmen was far from happy.

MRO Kragg the Grimm, RO Might.
RO stone, MRO Steel, RO resistance

I don't recall if the rune of the furnace is an armour or a talisman rune. If the latter, I believe you have just enough points left to add one so he's also immune to all flaming attacks.

That's 1+ rerollable armour save.
T5, opponent never strikes with more than strength 5, so cannot be wounded on better than a 4+, and always saves on a 3+ with reroll.
Strength is 6 if opponent's toughness is 4 or less, and 10 if his toughness is 5 or more with 4 attacks at Ws7. Also 2 attacks at Ws5 and S4 that do not benefit from the runes.

If you're afraid of no armoursaves allowed weapons, switch the MRO steel for a MRO spite; you'll still have a 1+ rerollable save (and now also a 4+ ward), but opponents can get high strength and negate your armour save.

Edit: spelling.

That's good, but in 8th edition post daemons, I'd take immunity to killing blow.
I'd go hand weapon shield, shield bearers, re-roll armor save, enemy strength capped at 5, immune to poison and killing blow, 2+ ward vs fire (talisman) and double strength vs T5 or more.
You won't carve through T4 opponents, but most of the big guys I worry about are T5 or more. I'd count on S6 rank and file to squish the T4 guys.

How do you get S6 without a GW with a MRO Kragg scribbled on it?

Is KB so prevalent these days? I'd exchange the 1+ save and 2+ vs fire for a 2+ rerollable, rather than have no offensive capabilities against tricksy underhanded cowardly point-ears ;-) .

Of course, it's a shame we're not discussing 5th edition killer characters - you could build absolutely murderous runelords, then. Pretty much the only things that could stand up to those were characters with better stats and a sword of destruction/Blade of Cocacola, and there weren't a whole lot of those...

S6 is pretty common in dwarf armies. Long Beards with great weapons or hammerers. I don't need my lord to have S6 when the whole army can.
I'm happy enough with unkillable and S8 vs the mean stuff (striking at init 4), and let my brothers kill T3 and T4 guys.

I know they aren't complete CC beasts but a lot of people seem to dislike fighting against Scar-Vets on Cold Ones. With some modest upgrades they can be pretty tough to deal without resorting to siege weapons. They aren't too expensive either.

Nurgle Daemon prince with the 1+, 5++ is pretty scary and if hes a level 4 too the boosts he'll be getting are amazing

Nurgle Daemon princes are stupidly amazing. The ability to gain wounds and toughness for casting spells, and the ability to regain lost wounds for inflicting wounds is just silly.
If you can't kill him before he hits combat (which is pretty quick with flying) you're going to have real trouble downing him. Other than shooting him or feeding him units all game, I have no idea how to stop him.

I can tie him up with super expensive characters of my own, but that's not really a solution, at best it's a draw.

Well, I saw a Nurgle DP stopped by a Mangler Squig today. (I think he'd already taken a wound, though). So, I guess there's that.

Gotcha. That's a little outside the context of this thread, though.

Eh. Maybe a tiny bit. But I think that considering the unit the character will be in can factor to/against his lethal efficiency.

I'm actually a big fan of the Skaven Warlord with the Fellblade. Unless you've got ASF or I8+, there's a comically good chance you're dead. Granted, he's got absolutely nothing to keep him alive, but at 90pts before his mount (I usually go with a war-litter, since it gives him a LoS in Infantry units and can get his armour to a 3+), he's a great caddy for the best special weapon in the game.

The two times I tried him, I died before I made it into combat.
I'm very unlucky.

My problem with it, is because you're rolling to take wounds every turn, you cannot surprise your opponent with him. Turn one when he rolls, I know exactly what he has.
I might try him on a bone breaker now, he'd be T5 W4, with a 3+ armor save.
What about cannons you say? I'll distract you with 2 abominations and hide behind rat ogres if I have to.
