As someone once said: when there are nerds, there is nerd rage.

And it seems to me that casual users of the internet probably won't vote that many times or care too much about the poll.

You saw the guy from Microsoft going off on twitter telling everyone to "deal with it" about the next X-Box's 'always online' component.

I've said this before and I'll say it again:

People often say that there's a "war" coming between publishers, retailers and consumers. What most don't realise is that that war already happened. We lost.

I don't think those kind of wars every really end. The market is in essence a constant tug of war between the producers and the consumers (with the middle men always in the middle trying to mitigate the other two for its own interests).

Like PC vs console has anything to do with this.

You could say it does. I'm betting that PC players hate EA more than any other group (and are probably why EA is in this poll)... But then I think PC players have a more strained relationship with the entire industry than console players since they've been taking the brunt of publisher stupidity the last decade.

...urrrr... I dunno

Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that, though EA are horrendous to the franchises they inherit and dismissive of their fans, they've never really done anything despicable.
After all, they make games. A thing nobody really needs, but which are fun to have.
It's not really the same thing as some of the other things people have brought up here.

Waaagh! Gorskar = 2050pts
Iron Warriors VII Company = 1850pts
Fjälnir Ironfist's Great Company = 1800pts
Guflag's Mercenary Ogres = 2000pts

People need to remeber that this is a poll of consumers on the internet (almost all of whom will be gamers), it will always be slightly divorced from the real world.

EA is a pretty poor company though and as its sales are slipping I think that this is really starting to show. EA has had a troubled history with gamers, in the early 00's its reputation was terrible but it managed to claw its way back (a bit) but its obviously lost that thread again.

As to the response from EA it is nothing more than marketting double speak combined with some seriously sloping shoulders.

Simcity's always on requirement is DRM. it has been claimed by EA that it is actually an MMO yet it lacks an MMOs architecture and a single player hack/mod appeared within 10 days of release which was apparently trivially simple. I can't think of another word that describes Simcity's always on requirement other than DRM. There is also the issue that the game is very badly designed.

There isn't really room for a competitor to Steam, it has been going too long and its roots are too deep. The entire point of Steam is that your games are kept in one place (forever if you belive Valve) so why would I need to use Origin, especially as Ea have said that your account will be deleted after 2 years of inactivty. Thats also not counting all the shady things that Origin does (or at least did). There is room for other digitial distribution platfroms but they need to offer something different (like GOG).

F2P games do have something of an undeserved bad reputation but that is hardly helped by day 1 DLC and microtransactions for full price games.

As for the mailing lists, they may have gathered a couple of dozen votes, how many did the shambles of the Simcity launch or the string of piss poor console ports garner?

The final point is simply a poor attempt to label people who dislike EA as homophobes based on extremely flimsy evidence.

Happily for me EA doesn't actually publish games that I am interested in so I don't need to buy any of their games.

Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

Ok uh... That's just frigging crazy. It's just a handful of rows on a database, EA, they don't need to do that!

They have probably backed away from that now but that was certainly the case when Origin went live. They also completly block peoples access to games that they 'own' if their forum accounts get banned, although this is something else that may well have changed. Either way Origin has a poor reputation for reasons entirely unrelated to Steam.
