Model count is completely limited by points. It's just whatever you feel like bringing. At 1850, I often have two preds and three razorbacks and a whirlwind.

One stormraven for me has worked okay. I mean against Vendetta spam, it's going to die, but one time my single Stormraven killed two helldrakes and then went to hover and shot up a bunch of init 5 chaos guys. With two stormravens, you pretty much have to buy the comm link at that point, which is just another tax. Pretty frustrating really. There are many BA lists which won't want an aegis line, but almost all IG can work it in.

I don't have the $$ to get guard allies atm. I am considered C:SM allies to get: null zone libby, rifleman dread, thunderfire cannon, tac squad with combat tactics, and storm talon.

Gents,

You guys are awesome in terms of the advice and observations you are providing here. Thanks very much for all of it!

Lion, I, too, only like to use painted units, and have been working my tail off doing exactly that, only to see my beautiful new units get blasted on the table top. I, too, am delaying on building IG allies almost because I know they're going to take me ages to paint up, and therefore be able to play with. Ahhh....OCD.

The observation that BA are not a "beginner" army is particularly poignant, I think, and so that might give me some comfort as I blunder about a bit trying to refine tactics.

I look forward to seeing any lists you guys come up with--I will post one that I have worked up that I think might work and would appreciate feedback on that too. My problem is I live in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the only gaming shop is 25 km away from me, which equates to more than an hour in traffic each way. So I don't get many chances to play, and when I have done recently, I have been destroyed in 3 rounds. So...I don't have the chance to do a lot of "play testing." Anyway...thanks again and I appreciate the feedback and responses.

At 1850, this list has a few issues. Marines really can't afford two HQs, unless they are two very cheap ones. The Tac squad needs weapons and a ride. You can try to DoA 5 DC, but they will likely just get shot. Two razorbacks in an 1850 list as they only tanks are the deadest razorbacks ever. If you really want to use DC, try dumping Astorath and getting a 10 man squad on foot in a Land Raider. Then put your other guys in tanks too, and have Mephiston as the HQ. That's more a challenge to enemy anti-tank.

Any advice on which land raider to use? I'm leaning towards the standard variant; two TL LCs seems fairly attractive. However, I imagine I would obtain some preds with LC sponsons, so that might make the LR LCs redundant.

Really I think I would like to shape my army as such that my shooting would force the enemy to close in where I would hope to have the advantage in CC. If outgunned, I'd like to be able to focus fire dangerous targets( e.g. other land raiders), roll in close with a LR and deep strike some ASM.
