Don't think I've seen this one which surprised me a little.

Necron Destroyer Lord with MSS curbstomps Calgar.

As others have said, Calgar is a pretty inefficient character pointswise. Rune Priests are a pretty good shout for efficiency, Chaos Lords and Warbosses can be chisseled into beatsticks to be feared for a good cost, Dark Angel Librarians are also very cheap.

I think that Creed is the best ALL ROUND hq. Nobody else can make a titan a scout.
But commissar yarrick is also extremely good. power fist, force field, eternal warrior and iron will just to name afew. iron will means that everytime he dies on a 3+ he comes back to life. hes half necron

My brother killed Calgar with Draigo so he's probably better (not sure it lucky dice rolls or Draigo is actually better)

I think that the best HQ is Abbadon (despite his lack of arms) and I'm pretty sure he could beat The Swarmlord.

In terms of squad bonusses, it's hard to go wrong with Uriah Jacobus as well - +1A, Rerolls when charging, Feel No Pain, a S4 shotgun, you don't have to worry about challenges if he's around ("I refuse your challenge! My unit kills you and doesn't miss my weak CC attacks!) and he's only 90 points with a 5+/4++ save.

It hasn't been brought up because it doesn't really need to be said. A Necron with MSS will, 50% of the time, cause a beatstick to kill itself.

Though 50% isn't great odds in the beatstick race.

Actually it is. Once you start looking at the top-tier characters the odds of winning are pretty close to 50/50 (since their stats are roughly equivalent and any non-EW matches are decided by whoever rolls the first instant death wound). So a MSS character has a 50% chance to win outright through the self-kill, and then a smaller chance of winning "fairly". That's pretty good odds I think.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Except they don't have a similar chance to win fairly. Against a normal assault character, yes. But when you start (as this thread is doing) considering special characters, there's a lot that will outright beat a Necron Lord iff MSS doesn't go off in a turn. So it's generally, against a beatstick, 50% to win or die. It levels the playing field against those beatsticks for the Necron lord, but 50% is pretty low even comparing those characters against each other. Ghazkull, for example, wouldn't break a sweat beating that Necron Lord if MSS doesn't go off.

Pretty sure the following could at least have a fighting chance against Calgar:

MoN
Mastery Level 3
- Iron Arm
- Leech Life
- Gift of Contagion
Powerfist
Bike
Spell Familiar
Sigil of Corruption
(Enjoy your WraithLord/Old C'tan on a bike)

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Are you kidding me? The Swarmlord doesn't even need psychic powers to beat Abaddon. With the right psychic power even an ordinary Hive Tyrant is capable of beating Abaddon 1 on 1.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Paroxysm is fun like that.

Iron Arm Swarmlord with Endurance/Warp speed will take Abaddon's lunch money, heck, it could even beat the old Nightbringer one on one more often than not (otherwise the old Nightbringer rather handily squishes swarmy who can't get a wound on the thing through it's insane toughness and invulnerability save, while the Nightbringer can most certainly wound and ID the swarmlord).
