As noted, if you just have one unit and clearly state it at the beginning I doubt anyone will care. Dude they're cultists...

There are generally 150 points set aside for 2 units of bare cultists and 1 ADL, and yes they're cultists, it's a far cry from the OP's issue of a space wolf

Are all your cultists the same or do you have a shooter squad and a shanker squad?

All of them are the bare squad which is autopistol and ccw, so... uh... shanker squad.

Well there you go. Clearly state before hand these are shanker squads. If need put pics of Rodney the Shanking wiener dog in front of each squad.

You could always have some ork boyz and just call them Mercs using shanker rules.

I think some people on here are a bit overzealous. For example, I've seen people run the new mixed Cultists as all Autogun Cultists and people run Slugga/Choppa Ork Boyz as Shootas. It isn't a huge deal as long as it is consistent. If I know that every one of your Ork Boyz have Shootas, it does not impact the game. Is it the best thing ever? Not at all. Is it acceptable, even at GTs? From my experience, yes.

I've only once run into an egregious situation, ironically at Nova two years ago. Straight-up proxies and broken models are not acceptable. Really, I think unpainted models have no place at a GT (local events--whatever), but that's another thread entirely.

Thanks for the feedback guys!!

I was really just trying to "check myself" to make sure I wasnt being out of line.

I too take the time to model my boys up and expect my opponent to do the same.

I think its just a matter of respect for yourself and your hobby.

My cultists are all WYSIWYG. Three squads with pistol & CCW- one comprised of DV models (with an old metal Chaos Marauder as squad leader), one of old 2nd ed metal cultists, and one of WHFB beastmen with pistols from the old CCW sprue added. I'm thinking about trying the autogun guys, though, as it's pretty cheap for another good chance to force a grounding test on an FMC, and those S3 shots will occasionally kill a nasty daemon or two.

I’ve also built and painted a dozen plague zombies (so far), which are technically WYSIWYG no matter what you give them, as their rules state that whatever the actual model is armed with just counts as a single CCW, as the zombies just club people with whatever they have.

I like WYSIWYG in concept, certainly. For those of you arguing for it, though, what is your solution to Harlequins? There's 2 Kisses per box, no Kiss for a Shadowseer, and no Kiss+Fusion Pistol combo.

Buy or convert as many as you need. The same solution there’s always been in situations like this. It’s not as easy as we’d like it to be, but if you want that optimally-equipped squad, you make it happen. I feel your pain. I’ve got over a hundred harlequins, but only a couple of squads’ worth who have Kisses.

nkelsch, I will eat my words as I said I would

Just double checked my cultists, and I apparently still have the 5 man box my parents got me unassembled. I separated my squads out and found I did have 10 of each, though I have 2 of each type of cultist champion. Benamint gave me a sprue or two of DV chaos models for the DCM bits exchange while the cultists were missing, the 2 champions on the Chosen and Hellbrute sprue were still there, so I have 2 squads led by the guy with the shotty and the sword.

As the Space Wolves say, "I recognize my failing and will be sure to correct it."
