Subject: "I am important!" - viewpoints and pontifications from popular celebrities.
Da Boss wrote: The hatred for this kid is just unreaasonable. So he's an egotistical 19 year old? Big whoop. The world's full of them, I was one once. The difference is that this one is rich and successful and people put a microphone in his face a lot or read his stupid tweets. I've got nothing against the kid, don't listen to his music or pay attention to what he says, but christ am I sick of people ranting about him here there and everywhere as if he was some sort of awful person when there are much worse bastards out there to be angry about.
Yep, this right here. I'll start off by saying I'm not a Bieber fan, but what do you expect to get when you take a kid and right from the beginning for years tell him he gaks gold, give him everything he wants, and nightly have him in front of screaming fans who act like he is a promised Messiah.
I'd dare say most posters here on Dakka in that position would be living lives parallel to Bieber's.

Y'know what's scarier than Bob Geldof's comments? The comments on the article. Holy crap, they read like such perfect imitations of everything wrong with conservatives that I have trouble believing that they aren't all fake.

I'm confused at the fact that A) all of the comments on that British website appear to be by Americans
B) if those are real people, I honestly hope I never ever go within fifty miles of any of them, because they seemed to be the most ignorant, hateful people I have ever had the displeasure to read the words of.
Erm, so am I the only one who noticed that the headline and premise of the article is sensationalist nonsense? "We may not get to 2030..." is not remotely equivalent to a declaration, and I don't see a quote there where he says "All humans will die before 2030" despite the fact the Star put quote tags around that phrase in the headline.
Geldof may be an bit of an irrelevance these days, but surely there are better examples of celebrities making tits of themselves than a guy known pretty much exclusively these days for his work relating to poverty and vaguely lefty cause-advocacy doing exactly that.
EDIT: Also Breotan, my lawyers will be in touch, I intend to sue you for causing me severe mental distress and causing the death of countless of my brain cells due to you not warning everyone that the article descends into what is possibly the most moronic, imbecilic, vacant, cretinous pack of lies, misinformation and ignorance on climate change that I've ever seen

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal
