Anyone ever watch the movie Event Horizon and think that the movie could have been mans first venture into the warp before geller fields?

That movie is terrifying, and they definitely went into the warp unshielded.

40k is my favorite franchise/setting, but that doesn't stop me from equally enjoying other franchises a lot as well. Sci-fi just has a lot of crossover.

Guys what do you think about 40k writers ? I' mean they are not inventing anything, they are only following a ripped off setting....

I mean, what would be their writing genre ??? B rate action flickers based on other people ideas ?

Whoa, whoa. Hold up there. You really don't have an understanding of the sci-fi genre or the publishing industry, so let me help.
The BL authors write science fiction. It's a genre that deals with the future, technology that doesn't exist yet, maybe aliens, and "what if" scenarios. That said, there are going to be some similarities from one sci-fi story to the next. That's called a "genre." So, BL authors write Science Fiction.
As for the "based on other people's ideas" thing: BL either finds an author who is extremely talented or one that sells a lot of books. Many of the BL authors have successful writing careers outside of BL. GW hires these people and say "Hey, we like your style. Write us a few books and we'll give you money." To which the writer says, "Heck yes!"
Example: Dan Abnett. He's written one of the most unique, realistic and kick butt sci-fi novels in recent memory. "Imbedded." But, BL pays him to write BL books, a deal no author in his right mind would turn down unless your last name is King, Meyer or Rowling.
Example 2: Larry Correia, New York Times Best Seller wrote the Monster Hunter International and Grimnoir series of books. (They're awesome btw) but he's also a geek and loves wargamming and painting miniatures. He loves Warmachine and posts on a Warmachine forum a lot. Then the head of Privateer Press said, "Wait, Larry Correia, New York Times Best Seller loves Warmachine??" So he contacted Correia and asked if he would write him a novel or two. Larry agreed because he loved the WM universe and game. So that's an alternate route to writing for an established universe.
Now, the technical aspect of writing for a shared universe is that there are certain rules you have to follow. I can't write a HH novel and suddenly make Lograr change his mind and return to the Emperor. So, the stories they write aren't based on other people's ideas, its that they come up with original stories that are set in a universe not of their making. It happens all the time and doesn't make them less of writers. It means they want to pay their bills and have fun doing so.

40k hasn't really ruined Homestuck for me although I do note some very vague similarities between the Troll Empire and the Imperium of Man and Hussie shamelessly borrowing the term Grimdark to mean something completely different. And also the main character's associated classical elements and colors matching up the Chaos gods.
