Given the talent shown on the first page, they are most definitely probably right

But it is incredibly bad form and as someone who works on a committee for a full event (not just wargames) on a yearly basis, I can say for certain that they are going to regret it. Even if anime makes more money, wargamers are a very good bunch of customers to have your event, and will be loyal over the years if you live up to your end.

Doh :( well at least there is the LVO

Who do I talk to about a refund? Is it possible to transfer credit towards LVO tickets?

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Bare minimum, they should front for change/cancellation fees on your airline ticket and full refund on con tickets. Reece can't say anything negative about the situation, because of his business position and stake in this, but that does not necessarily stop the rest of you guys from flinging a few well placed turds in public forums about how this was handled.

That stuff is starting to get overrated.

No sign of a refund. No response from the con in response to my very simple question last week ("I've heard rumors that the Warhammer 40k tournament has been canceled; can you please confirm?").

I'm contesting the credit card charges today. Reece, if you have any remaining contacts with the organizers, you might pass along that silence isn't doing them any favors here.

No refund on my end either.

If anyone gets any additional notice on this, please let me know.

Thanks!

He said they are waiting on final authorization from their lawyer to release funds. Should occur in the very near future.

The very near future hasn't included the past 48 hours, anyway.

Reece, you should send a note to everyone who signed up (assuming they gave you that list), and let them know the event is off. People who don't read Dakka will need to cancel hotel arrangements, etc.

Is this the same event that they're plugging in that awful Scifi channel Fangasm or somesuch show where Stan Lee guest takes on the role of Donald Trump with a bunch of interns?

I was told refunds were being issued presently.

Got an email from Comikaze this morning with a refund notification being issued today (Oct11) and a transaction number.
Then I got a Con update that Alyssa Milano (Total Hottie), Mike Rooker (Merle from Walking Dead), and Edward James Olmos (Cdr Adama from BSG) will be in attendance.

I got that email as well, though the actual charge-back has yet to show up on my credit card. And they STILL haven't responded to any of my (repeated) emails.

For now, I'm letting AmEx carry the ball.

Edit: oh, and nothing in the email explains WHY they're refunding my ticket. I don't think they want to admit canceling the event.

Did everyone's refund post to their account? I got the notification that it was processed from Comikaze but haven't actually seen the refund into my account.

She Who Must Be Obeyed had Comikaze tickets so I ended up taking her and the kids since they had never been to a Con before; lots of Cos-Players/Costumes for photo-ops, my wife turned around at one point and bumped face first into Stan Lee (he was pretty cool about it, she was like "OMG!!!")...saw Mike Hogan and Edward Olmos (Colonel Tigh and Adama from BSG), Tony Todd (if you don't know who he is your nerd-card is revoked), and Bruce Campbell (double ditto on the Nerd-Card).
Of note...the area we had the Tourny at last year (along with the space they were playing that Harry Potter ballgame) were both empty dead space.
SWMBO felt pretty bad for us 40K geeks losing out for nothing.

Sucks about the empty space, but glad you had fun.

Oh wow. Most uncool. I don't see this event going on for very long with this kind of behavior.

Sigh.

Well....that is an interesting fact. If they had space, I wonder why they didn't use it?

Oh well, we're rethinking running events for other people, not having administrative control is frustrating. I think FLG is going to stick to FLG events.

Unfortunate, as it means fewer big events in SoCal, but I think it is the best strategy from a business standpoint.
