Yes, those exist.

Did anyone in this thread actively claim that the state should suppress speech?

Do you mean anyone other than the guy I was replying to? It's not a complicated quote chain, so I'm not sure where the disconnect's occurring.

I mean, I have lived in LA for 3 years, I lived in PA for 22.

Mexico is no peach for sure, but we shouldn't be comparing ourselves to Mexico. We should be setting a standard, and this article shows a really bad standard we are setting...

I don't understand how you came to the conclusion that KK was implying that the legal suppression of racism which violently rears its head entails the restriction of speech. I mean, yeah, much like any criminal law regulation which administers consequences for violent, racist action restricts the freedom of expression (read: speech) but that's just sort of how it goes when you exist in society; especially if that society has a formal government.

Unless he was suggesting more and consequently redundant laws against murder or assault or battery or even incitement of violence, there's not much else he could have been suggesting beyond the restriction of speech.

I know it's north of you.

I wouldn't expect a true Texan to run away and to Mexico if he does not like America.

I would expect him to just take his state (every true Texan thinks America should just be like Texas anyway ) and leave!

Hence, the Red River reference. Your new border between Texas (aka, True America(TM)) and fake America!

He said he's never been to foreign soil, but lives in LA. Dude, it quicker to drive to Mexico then to drive home if he's in LA. Make a run for the border and check it out!

He also could have been suggesting that the status quo is just fine, while providing a rationale for its existence; which was my understanding of the comment.

I was suggesting that existing laws would need to be applied.

One would suggest that if this is the case then he's picked pretty much the best person in history to deal with this meddlesome priest spouse no ?

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Good point.

I'd also like to note that, in rebuttal to the US is EVILLZZZ RACISTS because of some twitterjerks, I believe the Miss America contest already had several African American winners.

OT but if they are married can they compete?

Mmmm, tasty casual racism/ignorance on Twitter. Now that's how you start a Monday.

Truly we live in a remarkable age. Back in the day you generally had to talk to someone personally, or maybe over the phone to really get the casual racism to come out. Occasionally some idiot would forget the whole 'dog' part of 'dog whistling' and it'd end up in the paper or on the news, but they stood out for that reason.

Now whatever hurtful, hateful, bigoted and/or ignorant thing someone wants to share can be tossed out there for public consumption, permanently and all but irrevocably tied to them if they're dumb enough or people are invested enough in the matter.

It's an ugly aspect of our species, but through technology we have what can prove to be a self correcting problem. Instead of finding out after decades whether or not someone was secretly a giant gakbag, now a mere perusal of their FB and/or Twitter page can generally give one a solid idea.

Truly we live in remarkable times.
