here here... every game i have dropped my swarmlord in on he just noms his way through them thanks to biomancy. being able to buff nids with biomancy is amazing. i played a pure swarm army with the only MC being tervigons, that was a hard battle when 2 of 3 go down first turn. so far ive really enjoyed the following

typically we play 1500pt games, so far this seems to bring the pain against all armies including giving grey knights a run for their money them little pricks!
anyways tried a warrior based army, didnt like it, raveners however where fun, not sure why more dont talk about them since they can get 2 melee weapons and a gun... talons and rending claws yes please! oh i get a devourer too? why not. Gotta figure out how to build my nids now for a 2k game, gonna need more gants!

Yeah, Nids at 2k is awesome. The only problem is movement and running. Your first turn last forever.
I field 2 squads of 20, and pod a third squad of devilgants @2k. This on top of two tervigons. There is literally no problem you can't solve in this game by just adding more termagants.

what do ya guys think, running either 3 tervigons with a trygon and swarmlord then the gants/gargoyles and hive guard in a 1500 game?
Or running 2 tervigons, swarmlord, flyrant... or 2 Tervigons, swarmlord and 2 tervigons one prime deepstrike of course.
tried the trannofex what a cool sounding name but horrible in action. Didnt like my mawloc either bah what a waist of points.
So im basically looking at what to fill my extra 200odd points in the 1500 games and then what to throw in the 2k games.
also what do yall think about winged nids army? fly rant, harpies, gargoyles, still either go tervigons/gants or just lots of gants to make troop side work.

No, you can never improve your reserves beyond 2+

*Harpy - The T5 kills it for me before I even field it. There are far to many tricks to lowers it toughness further and S10 weapons floating around to just blast a T5 model and be done with it.
*A roll of 1 is always a failure, a frined of mine recently thought that also, I let him play through for times sake. A one is a failure though. ALWAYS.

This isn't the issue, the issue is that omst of our units are either garbage or gems, there isn't a whole lot of middle ground. Putting that aside though. I just can't see playing swarmlord right now over a flyrant. The Flyrant is to versatile in what it does compared to the swarmlord. What if they have a Dev squad with ML? Good bye swarmy...

Ive actually had yet for someone but greyknights kill my swarmlord and even then it was 1 out of 6 games against grey knights. Ive field swarmlord roughly 25 games now, and he has done nothing but destroy! i typically give him Iron Arm thanks to rolling 4 dice on biomancy, plus feel no pain either from another physicer on the field. I dont own a flyrant yet, its on my to-get list tho. gonna run him with the duel devourers and see what happens. my meta has lots of flyers and ive had a few lucky shots with hive guard to bring down most aircraft so AA has not been an issue. Maybe ill try a flyrant with 2 trygons DS into the back field with ygmarls for max chaos.

Here's a tactic that will help if you find yourself commonly facing parking-lot imperial guard, waveserpent spam eldar, or gunline-castle tau:
Take 3 mawlocs, 2 flyrants, 3+ units in spore pods, and whatever else you can fit in the troops/elites slots etc. Make sure you're able to have enough models on the table so you don't get wiped out on turn 1. Deploy all 3 mawlocs, then burrow them on turn 1 so they come in automatically on turn 2. Then, when turn 2 rolls around get your reserves on and use the mycetic spores + their contents to surround your enemy's gunline. Then start deep striking the mawlocs via their "Terror from the Deep" Rule. After at least 2 and sometimes even 1 mawloc appear in the middle of their army, the units underneath the large blast template will have nowhere to be placed and automatically destroyed. Whatever is left over takes S6 AP2 hits, and then the rest of your army gets to take shots/assault at it. You'll make a castled up player cry the first time this hits off, and force them to spread out in the future.

just wanted to say thanks to yall for helping me learn Nids!
played in an 1850 turny this weekend, and placed first! over 19 other players, including a member who had played 12 in feast of blades. I am very proud to say i was the only bug army, and 75% of the other players where either Tau&eldar.. with a few pure eldar, and tau lists. Very very competitive and what is with turnys and people just bundling up in the corner and long range you.
I now see how a mawloc can be devestating, with how close and packed up many players set their armys behind their agies. Tho i have to say, my Ygmarls where the MVP for me, every game they destroyed everything in their path, gotta love mutli assaulting tank lines :p
final game was against an IG gun line.. my word ive never seen so many shots before...

What was the list you ended up bringing? It's good to hear you took 1st! Congrats!

A word of warning, don't listen to the majority of nid players. They will all tell you to get tervigons, termagaunts and hive tyrants. These are the targets for nerfing in the next nid book, coming in around 2 months.
Instead, you should simply buy the models you like, or get cheaply. Pretty much everything except pyrovores and lictors can be used well in the current book, but if you see them cheap and like them, grab um.
A nid list works best overwhelming the enemy. hordes of troops with support in many of the possible ways such as whatever MC you like, zoanthropes, hive guard and such, plus fast units like gargoyles, raveners and shrikes will serve you well. The current game is dominated by armies that are good at killing elite armies, and everyone's complaining about it who runs an elite army. Focus on hordes, spore pods and overwhelming. Get into melee asap, fearless little buggers tend to not go away.

i feel like this post is alittle behind.. sorry mate but i already own a huge chunk of the codex now :-p

thanks mate! I have mixed feelings on my list but heres what i ran:
(it was 1750 with no special characters<- sad no swarmlord)
HQ:
Hive Tyrant, wings, 2xdev, wings, regen, old adv, 2xbiomancy chart (lucky me got iron arm all 3 games, second game didnt matter he was blasted away by 3 riptides and 2 hammer heads before i even got to start so im ok with that, first game he didnt do anything till turn 3 as my enemy was GK with 2 landraiders loaded to start and 1 term deepstriking, so all in all i was not impressed with him)
Elite:
3xHive Guard (useful)
8x ymgarl geanstealers (all 3 games MVP)
Troops:
15x Hormogaunts (useful as always if i remember the 3D6 take highest when running haha)
10x termagants
10x termagants
2x tervigon, regen, 2physic powers (the feel no pain one i used every game, and regen saved the game for me in the final table with 4 out of 5 Box cars!!)
Fast Attack:
20x Gargolyes (awesome!)
3x raveners w/rending claws and ST (these i was very disapointed with, i would rather have a HQ tervigon then these.)
Heavy:
Trygon, Prime, regen (as always he brings a very nasty blow turn 2-3
I think that was everything. Now looking back on the turny, id possibly run 1-2 mawlocs as i never made it to turn 4 with only 2hours a game, so have the mawloc pop up, and if he moves stuff great if not oh well, he can then assault next turn and smash tanks if need be. maybe idk still chewing on that one as this turny was well outside my normal META (drove 2 hours for it)
I probably wont ever run raveners again till the new codex, as they just to squish being T4 and the points bah to pricy.
Flyrant was ok, i will have to see how he does at my local store turny next weekend, or maybe ill run him and swarmlord to screw with peoples minds haha.
If i had the battle reports id love to share, the IG game was Kill points... who makes the final game Purge the Alien x_x its byast haha, he had me sweating bullets with the amount of fire power he put out, but lucky for me we had dawn of war so i crossed the table and on my last turn 3 was just smashing everything i had into his lines. He got very lucky and on turn 1, i shot my flyrant at a squad of 10 gaurd and only killed 8 but since he was on the table edge i was sure he would run... he needed snake eyes to stay... and what does he roll..... snake eyes! bah humbug lol no first blood for me, which ment for sure he would have it turn 2 since i was second to go.
overall score for me was, 2 crushing victories, and 1 minor victory (the final game was a minor very close on the KP)
