If I were running Daemons at a tournament, I'd just hope to face High Elves only once out of three rounds. Not much you can do, there.
Honestly, in a tournament you should always be expecting to see the ultimate in gouda... Thus, I likely wouldn't bring
MSU Daemons as the Nurgle list w/double Khannons is simply head and shoulders beyond anything else we can field.
And with High Elves being so damn popular right now, I think as Daemon players we should be building lists designed around combating their stupid crutches... (ie: 2x chaff Beasts + 2-3x 5-strong Furies + regen'ing Plaguebearer brick w/WS10 Herald + 6 Beasts of thumping & double Khannons to neuter any Frostchickens)
At worst the HE player tables you like he's honestly expected to. At best, you can keep things close and perhaps ruin his shot at getting Best General! (at which point most HE players it seems start whining about how unfair our book is and than Khannons are the broken things in the game... or at least, the ones I know do!)
In a friendly/pick-up game, unless the HE player is honestly wanting to test out their tourney list, I'd simple refuse to play against them if they're bringing out the banner on anything more than 6
DP's.
If they show up for a so-called friendly with an Alarielle Light Coven army of doom, I'd be tempted to table-flip their army across the room and call it Khorne's Wrath for being such a weedy little donkeycave.
